Okay, I'm still trying to lull myself to sleep here....Anyways, what are your 10 favorite song intros, however, doesnt necessarily have to be ranked in any order... Among 10 of my faves are....
1) "Smoke on the Water" - Deep Purple
2) "Over, Under, Sideways" - Yardbirds
3) "Long Distance Runaround" - Yes
4) "More Human Than Human" - White Zombie
5) "Fly Like An Eagle" - Steve Miller Band
6) "Time" - Pink Floyd
7) "Chop Suey!" - System of a Down
8) "Hot For Teacher" - Van Halen
9) "White Room" - Cream
10) "Resurrection" Fear Factory
What are yours?

As a general rule, Rush opens most of their songs very very well. They hook you right away. Songs like Closer to the Heart, Tom Sawyer and Spirit of the Radio have awesome intros. It is one of the things about them I like so much. They care as much for the music as they do the lyrics and it really shows.
Even going back in their library, Working Man (on All the Worlds a Stage) blows the hinges off doors with the opening and the best is yet to come on that one. The Trees has a great folklore kind of intro before it explodes into vintage Rush
I could go on and on. All this Rush talk is going to cause my to load op the disc changer with Rush today

Yeah, I definitely agree about Rush...Or anything by Yes, Asia, Cream, most songs by The Who (anything off of "Quadrophenia" and "Whos Next" had some of the catchiest intros over).....Alice-in-Chains beginning to "Grind" and "Would" rank up there as well.....I shouldnt forget the intro to "Aqualung" by Jethro Tull either...

It's really simple, but Natural Mystic by Marley is one of my favorites.
EMI by the Sex Pistols. Again, nothing fancy, just good.

Yeah, "EMI" and anything else off of "Nevermind The Bollocks" ("Holiday in the Sun" was a perfect way to start off that album)

I never got into The Who. I even saw them in concert back in 84 (I think) and only went because a couple buddies were huge Who fans and I just tagged along. Good concert but I still never got into their music

Was that when The Clash was opening-up for them? It's unfortunate though that you saw them with Kenny Jones (instead of Keith Moon).....
People tend to focus on "My Generation" or "Tommy", but if one listened to both
"Whos Next" and "Quadrophenia", then it's easy to get into them....

I'll be 37 this year. I cannot even recall what album, if any, they were touring in support of.
Edit: I keep thinking it was for the album "It's Hard" but maybe it was "Face Dances". It was their farewell tour so whichever album kind of led up to that tour that was when I saw them.

For those of us who had the misfortue to live through the disco era, how about.
TOTO..... "Hold The Line".
The radio waves at that time were so full of disco crap that when that song came on it gave you hope that rock and roll would survive.
To this day TOTO is still one of my favorite bands.
Steve Luthaker, brillant guitar player.
The Pocaro brothers were one of the best rhythm sections of all time. Simon Phillips has taken over where Jeff Pocaro left off.
For those people who like to search out good music, I strongly recommend you check out some of TOTO's recent releases.

I agree about Toto.....They had some of the most solid musicians....It's unfortunate that bands like REO Speewagon and ELO stole all the attention that they deserved.....Also, that "Rosanna" and "Africa" will forever be known as their greatest hits (I did have a major crush on the girl in he "Rosanna" video back then), but the beginning of "Hold The Line" was done brilliantly.....
Another song intro that I enjoy listening to is Steve Gadd's drumming and the acoustic guitar that joins in to begin Paul Simon's "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover".....

It was "It's Hard" (released in '82) since it was their last studio album and they toured w/The Clash to support it.....
I personally wish that The Who stopped touring after Moon's death and I cant fathom that Roger & Pete are rumored to record an album worth of material even after "The Ox's" death......That's total blasphemy!!!!!
On their final 2 albums (with Kenny Jones on drums), they only had 3 worthwhile songs, "Eminence Front", "Another Tricky Day", and "You Better You Bet" (which still gets overplayed)......
Sorry for my tirade, however, The Who rank w/in my personal top 5 bands of all-time and I've always felt it was unjust for them to continue on after Keith Moon's death in '78.....
