Kanye West: College Dropout (thoughts anyone?)

I'm loving this album. I had really average expectations for this joint, despite his incredible beat making prowess. I just didn't see him bringing as much new flavor as he did. Props to Mr. West for bringing real entertainment back to hip-hop.

It's amazing that he recorded a hit song with his mouth wired shut. Not really into that style of music but he gets major props.

Thumbs down

Kanye West Being a "College Dropout" doesn't even qualify as being a dropout. It just means your trying to claim what little association with the poor people you've pimped for years making beats and taking thier hard earned money, and then take it all over again because you "found" a whole new singing talent.

Now who deserves props is X-Raided. He didn't sing with his mouth shut, but as an convicted murderer, he somehow gets songs out of the jail and prison. He somehow got a mini disc recorder snuck in and has made like 10 albums

Damn Devon, you're quite hostile. I don't know about Kanye taking peoples' hard earned money, but I do know I'd rather big up him than a convicted murderer anyday!

It is a good album. The New Workout Plan gets on my nerves.

Through The Wire, Spaceship, and Slow Jamz are good.

Considering half of these songs are 2 years old its good. KW is already working on his 3rd cd. Yup you guessed it, #2 is already done. Makes you wonder if he would just release all current songs instead of songs from a year or so ago, how much would it make others step up their music?

Rap Related Topics/News Thread

I just recently got this mix cd. I actually listen to this more than The Black Album. For anyone that doesnt know. DJ Danger Mouse took Jay-Z's lyrics off The Black Album and put them over The Beatles' White Album beats. The Beatles or whoever owns the rights to the songs stopped the sale of this cd, even though Rolling Stone and other publications said it was the most progressive mix tape to date. It is getting harder by the day to get it.

I guess i'm asking does anyone else own this cd besides me? And what do you think of it?

That guy is an absolute thug and should not make a cent on the basis of the Son of Sam law. His lyrics were used as evidence against him at his trial.

Jailed Rapper Close to $3M Record Deal

Island Def Jam expects to sign imprisoned rapper Jamal "Shyne" Barrow to a $3 million record contract this week, a source familiar with the negotiations said.

Shyne, now serving a 10-year term for his role in a New York nightclub shooting involving Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, was expected to finalize the deal by the end of this week, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Shows you how sorry the rap game is right now. That a average mc like Shyne can get the world thrown at him after just one album. These record execs are trying to find the next 50. Such a shame.

Only The Name "Jay-Z" Retired?

http://www.mtv.com/bands/j/jay_z/99_...questid=681224

This is just a small portion of the interview.

Sway: There's been so many rumors swirling about your retirement. There's been talk that you will come back as Sean Carter the artist, that we might see Sean Carter albums.

Jay-Z: Yes.

Sway: There's also talk that Sean Carter might have his own label with other artists. Do you want to speak on any of those things?

Jay-Z: Yeah, everything's early, you know what I'm saying? But everything's about growth. Especially the album thing, it's too early. Like, my whole thing with moving on, like you said, I feel like I hit a wall. Like, I just didn't want to just go into the studio and just record music and put out an album just to make money, just to be doing it and going through the motions. I gotta be passionate about it, and I wasn't feeling that passion, so I put it down. I still feel the same way. I've still got a lot of other things to do. So that's a long way away, and as far as the label, I know I'm going to have to come back to music, 'cause it's my first love. And I know I love working with new artists and seeing them go through that transformation and putting out new artists and seeing a new guy blow up or whatever. I just don't know if that's this year or three years from now.

Ma$e Gets "Welcomed Back"

Several months following reports of Mase's return to Hip-Hop, his new single has hit radio and internet download sites while the rapper makes impromptu public appearances declaring to the world he's really back.

On "Welcome Back," the Harlem rapper-turned-minister-turned-rapper-again effortlessly spits his signature lazy flow over a sample of the theme song from the 1970s television show, Welcome Back Kotter. However, references of polygamy and flossing synonymous with the old Mase are noticeably absent. Instead, Mase rhymes on his changed life and his comeback without uttering a curse.

"Self controlled and I ain't telling no lie/trying to find a soul mate you end up being soul tied/I make my money man/without the coca/livin la vida without the loca," Mase proclaims.

Though a far cry from his previous material, the hook highlighted with children chanting, "welcome back" makes the track fit right into his radio friendly catalogue. Later on the track, the former pastor of Atlanta's S.A.N.E. Ministries comments on his lengthy hiatus.

"The names have all changed since I've been around/but the game ain't the same since I left out," he sings.

While early reports said that Mase was seeking a deal with Nelly's Fo Reel Entertainment, he made a surprise call into New York radio station Hot 97 while radio personality Sunny was interviewing P. Diddy on-air yesterday. During the five minute interview, Mase confirmed his rumored return, declaring to Diddy, "Ya'll need to go get me something from Jacob's... I've got to be clean when I walk back in."

Diddy mentioned he has reserved Madison Square Garden mega-arena for a celebratory welcome back concert for the rapper who retired from rap five years ago to pursue God and ministry. Mase mentioned a possible appearance at the upcoming Summer Jam concert.
