The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will open its first "on tour" site early next year in downtown Phoenix, next to America West Arena.

Museum, arena and city officials will announce the deal at noon Tuesday.

The museum, which will be located in the current Phoenix Suns Athletic Club at 230 S. Third St., is expected to open early next year and attract 100,000 visitors a year. The deal runs for five years and could be renewed. It's the first time the museum has opened a facility outside of its home in Cleveland, Ohio.

Rick Welts, president of the Suns, said the museum would be a boon to downtown and convention organizers who can use the museum as an attraction and meeting facility.

Welts said the museum also could serve as a catalyst to building a nearby entertainment center with restaurants and bars.
