Does anyone know of a good free site to download music? I used to have WinMX, but it doesn't work at the dorms for some reason.
Thanks guys,
-Alan

I stay away from any downloading of copyrighted stuff. Not worth the risk, too many spyware programs, too many bogus files, etc.
I have just been downloading live bootlegs from sharingthegroove.org. You should check it out. They are all in lossless format either .shn files or flac files. Most of them are soundboard recordings and good quality. You have to download a bit torrent client in order to download the songs and then depending on what format they are in, download the programs to decode them into wav format.
It takes a little bit to get set up but is definately worth it.
iTunes.com is the Apple music site. I think it's available for PC now, too. Drink bottles of Pepsi. They've got 'one free song' caps. A co-worker drinks Diet Pepsi all day. In the last week, he's gotten 9 free song bottle caps. That's about as close as I get to free music on-line.

I find alot of stuff by doing a search on MSN for message boards of the kinda music I like. In them boards alot of people put up their personal FTP sites, or they post songs directly to download.
Downloading songs from a college dormitory is asking for trouble. I have been reading more and more about colleges working with music labels on helping bring students who download files to justice.....the fine on that is not pretty.
Either do it from your buddies computer, or buy the music

Yeah I've heard that, too. I took Kazaa off my computer at school. My roommate still downloads from winmix so she just sends me any songs I want through email. Muahah.
I miss downloading music . And the thing is.. i STILL don't buy the CD's - too freaking expensive. Well except Hanson's new cd.. WHICH COMES OUT APRIL 20TH JUST IN CASE ANYONE HAS A SMALL CLOSET HANSON OBSESSION.

I know of a free-site that has roughly 6,000 full-length albums, however, it's for sampling purposes only..... Edit: They were taking request on there for newer material (and would post them up w/in less than 24-hrs), however, for the past week they havent allowed request....I will PM the link if anyone is interesting in checking it out.....
