A dance album without being overtly "dance", this album is one of the best electronic albums out there. Tracy Thorn's angelic voice reminds one of Lisa Gerrard, and the pseudo-trance and drum N bass riffs border on chillout without being cliched.

Amazon.com's Best of 1999
Cool but not chilly at all, Everything but the Girl's Temperamental is the sound of the sweetest melancholy. Tracey Thorn's lyrics and vocals here are among her most affecting, tracing patterns of loss, loneliness, and a slightly unsettled happiness. This electronic pop makes for the perfect winter sound, as warm and bracing as a sip of cognac.

Great description of a terrific album...

Once a more acoustic folk band, Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt (better known as Everything But The Girl) evolved their sound to a definitely much more dance-like mentality, combining aspects of breakbeat, drum & bass and techno to produce thoughtful and catchy songs. Tracey's voice is on par with the great Sarah McLachlan and Ben's mixing is as professional as it gets.
