I thought this would be an interesting album to discuss because it was this album that brought rap into mainstream commercial popularity. I think its also significant because it came at a time when rap started to turn the corner from fun, upbeat, postive party music into the negative, dark, gangsta stuff.

At the time, if you were into music, you hated this stuff - sampling and scratching and rapping to some was not considered legitimate music. But if you don't take it to serious, it is some fun stuff to listen to.

My favorite songs are "It's Tricky" and "You be Illin". Some of the lyrics are absolutely hilarious.

I'm curious to know how you felt about rap at the time and now. I used to like the fun, hip-hop stuff, but I can't stand the Snoop-Dog and Tupac and other stuff that it has turned into.

This album was released 18-years ago? Again, I'm shocked how long ago an album first came out.... A friend and I back then wore this album out.... Who can possibly forget the lyrics to "It's Tricky"?

This speech is my recital, I think it's very vital
To rock (a rhyme), that's right (on time)
It's Tricky is the title, here we go...

Also, I the video to "Walk This Way" was a classic!

My other 2 favorite songs on there are "My Adidas" and "You Be Illin'"....

It's obviously still very sad how Jam Master Jay was shot for no apparent reason whatsoever....

I still listen to this album. One of my favorites while I was in middle school.

I think "Dumb Girl" is a very underrated track on this album.

The title track Raising Hell is just awesome.

Left y'all, ah to the left y'all
because I rock upon the mike real def y'all

And to the right y'all, ah to the right y'all
because I rock upon the mike all night y'all!
