Where Men Win Glory - The Odyssey of Pat Tillman
I just discovered that there is a new book on Pat Tillman coming out. "Where Men Win Glory - The Odyssey of Pat Tillman" It's by Jon Krakauer. Publishing date is Sept. 15th.
Looks like it was written with the cooperation of Pat's family. I like Krakauer's books so I am looking forward to this one.

Editorial Reviews
Product Description
The bestselling author of Into the Wild, Into Thin Air, and Under the Banner of Heaven delivers a stunning, eloquent account of a remarkable young man’s haunting journey.
Like the men whose epic stories Jon Krakauer has told in his previous bestsellers, Pat Tillman was an irrepressible individualist and iconoclast. In May 2002, Tillman walked away from his $3.6 million NFL contract to enlist in the United States Army. He was deeply troubled by 9/11, and he felt a strong moral obligation to join the fight against al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Two years later, he died on a desolate hillside in southeastern Afghanistan.
Though obvious to most of the two dozen soldiers on the scene that a ranger in Tillman’s own platoon had fired the fatal shots, the Army aggressively maneuvered to keep this information from Tillman’s wife, other family members, and the American public for five weeks following his death. During this time, President Bush repeatedly invoked Tillman’s name to promote his administration’s foreign policy. Long after Tillman’s nationally televised memorial service, the Army grudgingly notified his closest relatives that he had “probably” been killed by friendly fire while it continued to dissemble about the details of his death and who was responsible.
In Where Men Win Glory, Jon Krakauer draws on Tillman’s journals and letters, interviews with his wife and friends, conversations with the soldiers who served alongside him, and extensive research on the ground in Afghanistan to render an intricate mosaic of this driven, complex, and uncommonly compelling figure as well as the definitive account of the events and actions that led to his death. Before he enlisted in the army, Tillman was familiar to sports aficionados as an undersized, overachieving Arizona Cardinals safety whose virtuosity in the defensive backfield was spellbinding. With his shoulder-length hair, outspoken views, and boundless intellectual curiosity, Tillman was considered a maverick. America was fascinated when he traded the bright lights and riches of the NFL for boot camp and a buzz cut. Sent first to Iraq—a war he would openly declare was “illegal as hell” —and eventually to Afghanistan, Tillman was driven by complicated, emotionally charged, sometimes contradictory notions of duty, honor, justice, patriotism, and masculine pride, and he was determined to serve his entire three-year commitment. But on April 22, 2004, his life would end in a barrage of bullets fired by his fellow soldiers.
Krakauer chronicles Tillman’s riveting, tragic odyssey in engrossing detail highlighting his remarkable character and personality while closely examining the murky, heartbreaking circumstances of his death. Infused with the power and authenticity readers have come to expect from Krakauer’s storytelling, Where Men Win Glory exposes shattering truths about men and war.

I've been waiting for this book to come out for about 2 years now. The author pulled it form publication once becasue he didn't think it was good enough. I cant wait to read it.
From the Authors Wiki page.
Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman (unpublished)
In the 2007 season premiere of Iconoclasts on the Sundance Channel, Jon Krakauer mentions being deeply embroiled in the writing of a new book, but does not reveal the title, subject, or expected date of completion. The episode itself was filmed sometime after the filming of Into The Wild was completed, as Jon Krakauer and Sean Penn journey together to the bus inhabited by Christopher McCandless discussing the filming of his story and the effect it has had on them.
It was announced that Krakauer's new book, The Hero, was to be released by publisher Doubleday on October 14, 2008. It was later announced that Krakauer was unhappy with the manuscript.
The book, now titled Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman will be released on September 22, 2009.
The book draws on Tillman’s journals and letters, interviews with his wife and friends, conversations with the soldiers who served alongside him, and research Krakauer performed in Afghanistan.[5]

Just picked up Where Men Win Glory the Odyssey of Pat Tillman
Started reading the prologue during lunch. Krakauer gets right into it what happened on Aril 22 in the prologue. Seems like a lot of little things led up to the final events that day. Anyway it's a decent sized book, but I can already tell it's going to be one of those books that will be hard to put down.

I'm gonna be joining you. No matter the circumstances, he went for the right reasons. For family and for deep conviction. That can not be diminished.

Author to sign book on Tillman tonight
by Randy Cordova - Oct. 3, 2009
The Arizona Republic
Best-selling author Jon Krakauer says the story of late Arizona Cardinal Pat Tillman gripped him immediately.
"When he was killed, it just hit me in the stomach," Krakauer says of Tillman, who was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan in 2004. "I'd been thinking about him ever since."
The author spent four years working on "Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman." The book is No. 2 on the New York Times non-fiction best-seller list.
Krakauer worked closely with Tillman's widow, Marie, on the book.
"She is a . . . private person, but she really wanted Pat's story to be told," Krakauer says.
He will discuss and sign the book at 7 tonight at the Dobson High School Auditorium, 1501 W. Guadalupe Road, Mesa. Tickets ($36), which include one copy of the book, are available at Changing Hands Bookstore, 6428 S. McClintock Drive, Tempe.
Net proceeds from tickets will benefit the Pat Tillman Foundation. Information: 480-730-0205.

I have read over 2/3 of the book. For me, it got very intense once the Jessica Lynch situation started being discussed. I couldn't put the book down until after his death. Very emotional for me, perhaps because I am prior Army, perhaps because I was a fan of Tillman since his days at ASU, perhaps because it was a tragic situation, but most likely because of all of those reasons.
As ShaneH mentioned in another thread, there are some history lessons about Afghanistan included in the book which made the reading slow, but also many anecdotes about Pat and input from his wife and family which provided a closer look into who he was as a person.
I have put the book down for a week or so because the events that lead to his death as well as some other information in the book pissed me off so I can't truly say how I feel about it as a whole.

I read it over a weekend, good read.
I actually found the background/history on Afghanistan interesting.
I do see where this book would piss a lot of people off when it comes to the politics because he pulls no punches when it comes to his opinion.
