Anybody who is or has ever thought about making a film should definitely check this book out.
The book is by Lloyd Kaufman, the founder of Troma studios (responsible for such celluloid masterpieces as "The Toxic Avenger", "Surf Nazis Must Die", and "Cannibal: The Musical") and director of over twenty films. I have to say that it's one of the most insightful and entertaining reads I've had in a while. After four years of film classes it's refreshing to read a book that pulls no punches regarding the industry and film production in general. Kaufman is brutally honest in his depictions of each member of a cast and crew and their importance. What's more, his writing comes from over thirty years of experience in both studio and independent filmmaking. He elaborates each point he wants to make with an anecdote that more often than not will have you laughing hysterically.
I'm already half-way done with the book and I just bought it on Saturday. If you're trying to get started in independent filmmaking, this book is a must-have (as is "Rebel without a Crew" by Robert Rodriguez). Even if you're not thinking of making a movie and are just looking for an insightful and entertaining read, this is for you.
