Hunter S. Thompson

Just thought we could have a thread on him.

I have read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Generation of Swine. I think I will try to read more of his stuff when I finish the two books I am currently reading.

Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail is very, very interesting to read as well.

His article on the Kentucky Derby is considered the first use of "Gonzo Journalism", and is very funny.

Thompson is imminently readable. It's what a great blog should be. If more people were "citizen journalists" like that, I would not at all be opposed to bloggers taking over the role from mainstream media. Even through Thompson's obvious biases, he reported a lot of truth just by slavishly honoring the experience and never once attempting to endear himself as anything but flawed.

I added this documentary to my queue a while back: Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. It looks darn good.
