Why I Think The Top Ten Trade Is With Memphis

1- Danny Ainge has joined the Suns staff on their past two workouts of top ten prospects. Why would the Suns let him do that unless the Suns were picking ahead of the Celtics? That leaves Atlanta, Memphis, Portland and Seattle. Well, Seattle and Portland are obviously not happening.

2- Having a trade on the table for the number three spot doesn't make a lot of sense when Billy Knight is still working out Conley and Horford. Also, Knight has recently said that he is going to be addressing his point guard situation with one of the two picks, even if it means using one for a trade. Well, I can't see them trading the third pick to the Suns and getting a point guard from us that's worthy of the honor.

3- Haven't things been remarkably quiet on the Grizzlies front?

4- Marc Iavaroni and his relationship with the Suns. It makes conversations a lot easier.

5- Iavaroni seems to think that last season's record for the Grizzlies was an aberration, due to the many injuries they had, as well as the coaching situation. He may want to add a veteran player to make the Grizzlies a team more ready to compete for him.

6- System. Adding a guy like Shawn Marion, Boris Diaw, or even Kurt Thomas or James Jones will help him teach the system to the rest of the guys. He also, as we all know, thinks very highly of Kurt Thomas.

Now, does this mean I'm guaranteeing a trade with the Grizz? No. But in all honesty, it makes the most sense to me based on what would be happening with the other teams involved.

Well if it was #4 why aren't we working out Horford or Conley?

The Hawks may keep the pick, but it's widely believed they've already guaranteed Acie Law they'll take him with No. 11. They won't take two lottery point guards.

Right, but if we have a trade in place, why are they working out Horford and Conley?

The thing with this top ten trade is that there are very strong reasons why we wouldn't be trading with every team except for the Grizzlies, and there are a lot of compelling reasons why we could be.

• Everyone in the lottery is trying to figure out Memphis. The consensus is that the Grizzlies are going with Conley Jr. to help offset the injury last season to Kyle Lowry at the point. But there is concern that could be a smoke screen and the choice is really Joakim Noah or a trade.

Actually, I think the Grizz are probably willing to give up the pick to the Suns only if Horford is taken by the Hawks, which is pretty likely. I wouldn't be surprised if the Suns traded with the Grizz on draft day right after the Hawks pick Horford, assuming they do.

Man. It would sure suck if a Suns trade could only happen if the Hawks made a good draft pick.

Because the Suns may not be ready to commit to it, yet. Devil's in the details.
