Lakerfans (Everywhere): With the word out of LA that the asking price is too high for JO what happens? Does Indy come down or is a 3-way deal going to be needed to team Jermaine up with Kobe?
Chris Sheridan: (1:05 PM ET ) The best rumor I heard out here was that the Lakers had turned their attention to acuirin Shawn Marion in a sign-and-trade involving Luke Walton, another player and the Lakers' pick, which I'm told the Suns would use on Spain's Rudy Fernandez.
Regardless of the "other player" there is no way such a trade could be good for the Suns unless they had some sort of insanely great domino effect lined up. If Kerr asked Dumars for two starters and two picks, this has to be Sheridan talking out of his ass.

If that "other player" is Bynum, I'd consider it as long as Kareem came along as an asst coach. Walton/scrub/#20 (wherever the pick is) for Marion?!?!?!

If the other player were Odom and the Suns were dumping a bad contract -- say Marion and Banks for Odom and Walton -- then it might not be too bad. But that's probably not what they mean.
I think the "rumor" is absurd. And anyone who thinks that writing "acuirin" is a way to sound hip to NBA fans is not to be taken seriously.
yes mr. sheridan......the suns would just love to send their all-star SF to their most hated rival for peanuts.
lol.....and i cant believe he actually said "best rumor." what a dumb-ass.
the Lakers have NOTHING i'd be interested in except Kobe, Farmar and Bynum. that is all.....so nothing could REALISTICALLY be worked out between these two teams.
I think there needs to be a journaitistic definition as to what a real rumor is. Converting the speculation of another columnist into a rumor is simply aburd and it's not clear this is even that elevated.
The weird part about all the Suns trade rumors is that the likelyhood of a big trade is very low; yet they don't speculate about the Mavs who are almost certain to make some major changes.
Where the hell is he hearing this from? Why would we want to help the Suns out like this? Give them a low post defender like Kwame to guard Duncan?

The more I think about this, the more it makes me wonder...would Kwame and Luke put the Suns over the top? Is that really what they need? Do we really need to throw in the #19? Does that deal really help the Suns, or is it merely to get them under the cap?
And after getting Marion, we could then make a move for someone else. Move Odom to Indy for JO. We may be soft up front after this, but it's not like we were dominating down low anyways this season.
Of course, if we did all this, we would be down to the core and still be over the cap, and not enough wiggle room to sign good players to surround this team with.
The only way I'd be able to begin to handle this trade would be if it were constructed something like this:
Suns trade:
Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to the Lakers.
Lakers trade:
This year's first rounder, Luke Walton (5-6 mil a year), Jordan Farmar and Turiaf (2 mil a year) to the Suns
and...
Kwame Brown and a future first to the Bobcats.
Then, the Suns would have three first round picks to try to move up in the draft, or keep one of the picks and use the other two first rounders to trade KT for Marcus Camby (now that extra money is saved up).
Then, you can still add in a couple of free agents and a draft pick, such as Hill and Belinelli. Or you could maneuver yourself to get a legit back up point guard or try to sign one in free agency.
