There’s not much scuttlebutt being talked about involving Seattle in possible trade scenarios. The only rumor I heard is Seattle may be interested in Phoenix big man Kurt Thomas, but that’s unconfirmed.

I don't see a trade happening unless there was a third team involved which was under the cap. The only other trade which could help us out this season would be something like KT and a first rounder for Chris Wilcox and Delonte West, which is a silly trade for Seattle to make, unless they REALLY wanted to dump salary.

I'd be REALLY happy for a deal like that. I'd almost be willing to give KT and Atlanta pick for Wilcox and West. However, that would probably mean DJ doesn't get signed. Which I'd love for the Suns to do.

A straight KT for Wilcox works financially. KT is making $8.091 million for one year. Wilcox is making $6.5 million this year and $6.75 next year. (Difference is $1.591 which is 24.5% of Wilcox's salary). This saves the Suns money this year but creaes an extra year of costs.

Successful ScenarioDue to Seattle and Phoenix being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Seattle and Phoenix had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Hoopshype shows the Sonics at $49.5 million next year if they keep Wilcox. Considering next year is a good year for going after free agents, this might make some sense for them. At only $55 million, they are not at risk for luxury tax this year.
From the Seattle side, they clear space for free agency in 2008 while getting some veteran work on the inside. This is not much of a running team so they'd get a lot more productivity from KT during the season than the Suns.
From the Suns side, Wilcox would probably play a lot more than KT because he's better suited to Suns basketball. His second year contract is stil in luxury tax world, but they face paying a lot to replace KT next summer anyway.
I'm not usually very supportive of trade proposals, but this looks at least vaguely feasible.

what makes you say they're not a running team? a couple of years ago when they were a surprise team they were DEFINITELY a running team (or don't you remember our shootouts with them?). last year they were so injured it was difficult to tell what they were. this year they're almost an entirely new cast (at least their pivotal pieces are new) so who knows if they'll be running or not. i'd guess with the addition of durant and green that they're more likely to run than not.

Thats how I see it. Really the only prospect they are high on who doesn't really fit a running style is Swift. West, Ridnour, Watson, Green, Durant, Collison, Petro and Sene could all get out and run.
Despite what many people here think, playing up tempo and having a low post scorer like Swift are not mutually exclusive. The Spurs have shown they can play a faster game successfully against the Suns.

According to Hoopshype, they are currently scheduled to have $49.5 million in salary for 2008-09 WITH Wilcox. Getting rid of his $6.75 million could put them in position to go into free agency while right now all they'd be able to do is use is their MLE.
Obviously if they are not interested in cap space then the deal makes little sense. In any case, it was in the Seattle paper where KT was brought up and there is no other deal I can even possibly imagine the Suns would do.
The other possibility is that the new GM, who was with the Spurs as an assistant, thinks very highly of KT and really doesn't like Wilcox that much. Wilcox doesn't seem to have the defensive basketball IQ that he would like. KT would be a great 1 year replacement and locker room guy and would dump Wilcox's salary a year early.

Wilcox on the Suns replacing KT without further moves doesn't make much sense either. He is similar to Amare and Marion in roles. Also, Sonics is not gonna really compete next season anyway.
I'd still rather do the memphis trade Marion/Banks for Miller/Swift/Stoudamire, and keep KT.
Ah! I just remembered that the Sonics have a 9 million dollar trade exception from the Ray Allen trade. So, we could just send them KT and get back a second rounder or something.

KT for Wilxox only makes sense if the Suns think Wilcox can play a lot and be some help on defense. Dumping KT just to save luxury tax even ,with PJ Brown coming on board is a huge drop offensively. Brown has very limited offensive skills. Very very limited.
