OT: BYC Blues
I'm trying to figure out how a trade could happen (again) between Phoenix and Seattle to land us Collison in some kind of three party trade to be rid of the Malcontent. Ideally I'd like to involve the Clippers and get Tim Thomas back but I have yet to figure out how to make it happen.

That trade makes absolutely zero sense for Seattle or Los Angeles. Seattle, which is rebuilding, gives up a bunch of young talent in order to rent Marion for a year or two? And the Clippers, who are in a holding pattern this year thanks to Brand's injury, swap their most tradeable asset (Maggette) for a player they clearly didn't want last time he was a free agent (Wilcox)?

Youre exaggerating the obvious, but ive yet to figure out why.
He was looking for a way to make it work with BYC. I even said I dont know if its worth it. Hell, I was surprised I found a combination that a) got TT b) got collison c) circumvented the BYC issue d) moved marion. Juggling BYC contracts is a challenge in itself, and usually the first step is a trade that works financially and tweaked thereafter. Mind you, I dont even want to trade Marion, but I'll discuss the idea for 4 months out of the year.
Do you know how easy it is to shut down improbable offseason trade discussion on here? I hope you do, and I hope youre not thinking too hard with all these shutdowns.
Is the only option in your eyes to rehash banks and a 2nd rounder to CLE for newble and marshall?
A better contribution would be an improved trade scenario for the initial request.
At least you didnt bust out the realistic meter this time...

If you're really interested in Tim Thomas just do
Phx - Shawn Marion +future pick
for
LA Clip - Tim Thomas, Corey Maggette, Aaron Williams
LA gets rid of Thomas - who they seem to hate, Maggette - who they've never been able to use right, and Aaron Williams - the kind of guy winning teams bring off the bench but losing teams have no use for.
Marion would be a good complement to Brand if he comes back healthy and would be #2 instead of #3 on that team. Plus if he opts out Sterling saves money next year.

What's not to know? Why speculate on a trade that at least one team involved is guaranteed to reject instantly?

I wouldn't be. Making the numbers add up is just arithmetic, if you aren't worried about talent.

Your first step, I guess. My first step is to consider options that, at least theoretically, could have some appeal to everyone involved, and then try to figure out whether there's a way to make it possible financially.

Do you know how easy it is to come up with an absurd trade that "works on RealGM"?

Heck, at least that idea isn't absurd on its face. Cleveland has to make a decision about Varejao, and Marshall is relatively difficult to move at his present salary. Of course there is no way to know what Cleveland's priorities are, but at least we aren't talking Marion and Banks for James and Ilgauskas. (Hey, that works on RealGM, in spite of James's BYC status! I'm not sure if it's worth talking about -- what do you think?)

Constructing trades that are even remotely plausible is pretty tricky business, especially when you're trying to get a bunch of hot young talent for an overpaid role player near the end of his contract.

Eric is right on the money.
Trades happen because different teams have different needs, but you have to assume each are trying to improve themselves. There needs to be a clear rationale for why they will act that way.

Trades I'd be happy with:
Marion & Banks to MIA
Haslem, Wright, & J Will to PHX
Nash/Williams
Bell/Barbosa/DJ
Hill/Wright/Tucker
Haslem/Diaw
Stoudamire/Skinner/Marks
Sign PJ by trade deadline.
Marion & Banks to NO
Armstrong, West & Jackson to PHX
Nash/Jackson
Bell/Barbosa/DJ
Hill/Diaw/Tucker
West/Armstrong
Stoudamire/Skinner/Marks
Maybe sign PJ at trade deadline.

No thanks to the Miami trade just not enough value coming back in return for Marion and the New Orleans trade isn't allowed due to a BYC player whom I assume is West.

Ok how about :
Marion & Banks to IND
Diogu, Foster, Dunleavy & Deiner to PHX
Marion & O'Neal would be a nice F tandem in the East

Actually I've seen trades where Marion goes for far less, unless your saying the Suns need to add the picks. We get a rebounder/defender in Foster, a young promising PF in Diogu who we wanted in the draft, Dunleavy is a poor mans Mike Miller, and a backup PG in Deiner and get rid of Banks in the process.
I like it better than getting an injury prone AK, or Swift, Miller & Stoudamire from MEM.

A poor man's Mike Miller?!?!?!?
More like a broke-d**ked man's Mike Miller - and he's on damn near a max contract! So, we lose Marion's albatross of a contract for a comparatively (in every way) worse contract? Pass. If IND threw in 10 picks, I'd be all over it, though....

Okay I agree with the contract situation. But Miller averaged 4 more points and 2 more assists than Dunleavy, but Dunleavy is a better defender. Miller shot 40% from 3pt while Dunleavy shot 31%. But whatever switch out Dunleavy for Granger.
