Not Another Shawn Marion Trade Thread.....

Ok, I lied.. So it is..

I never thought I'd make one of these posts, but after thinking briefly and fooling around with the trade checkers, here's what I was thinking trade wise.. Bear with me...

Suns Trade

Shawn Marion
24th Pick in the Draft

Blazers Trade

Zach Randolph
Jarrett Jack
Martell Webster

Kings Trade

Ron Artest
John Salmons

Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

Suns Receive

Jarrett Jack
Ron Artest
John Salmons

Blazers Receive

Shawn Marion
24th pick

Kings Receive

Zach Randolph
Martell Webster
37th pick
52nd pick

[i]
Why the Suns Do It:

They get their PG of the future in Jarrett Jack, plus a MORE than respectable replacement for Marion at SF. They also add a guy they coveted last post-season in Salmons and can add him to the bench for depth purposes.

Why the Blazers Do It:

Besides the obvious need for a SF, getting Marion along with Oden? That's a damned successful draft if I ever seen one.

The team also picks up yet another draft pick, giving them 3 draft picks (not including the number 1 overall and the picks traded in this scenario) which they could in turn use to spin to move up some in the draft and pick up a PG of the future, especially if Law or Crittendon falls beyond the Clippers at 14. Or they can stand pat at 24, get Aaron Brooks of Oregon and use the other draft picks to stablize depth.

A lineup of Oden, Aldridge, Marion, Roy and either Rodriguez or Law/Brooks/ Crittendon? That's scary... Dangerously scary.

Why The Kings Do It:

First, prior to this trade, the Kings have exactly ONE draft pick (the 10th overall). This gives them a high second rounder and a mid second, allowing them to search for some diamonds in the rough to develop. They also drop a malcontent (Artest) from their roster, while getting younger and considerably better at PF. They also get a player in Webster that I think (in spite of being lost in Portland's future plans) has a very bright future and is someone I see flourishing with a change of scenery.

It all works salary wise.

I know it's another pipe dream Marion trade idea, but what do you guys think?

Don't be too brutal!

It's robbery in King's favor. Leave webster and #24 where they are. And with Salmons, we don't need Jack either. So, just Randolph to Kings, Artest/Salmons plus a small filler to Suns, Marion to Blazers.

Not disagreeing or stirring the pot with your assessment of the trade, however I'm a little confused by this statement.

I think Salmons is better suited as a guard/forward than he is a PG, so I don't think his acquisition would necessarily negate the need for Jack. I do want to hear your side though. Do you think Salmons would be able to run the point for the Suns?

We targeted him as a big PG that is good defensively against both guard positions. He'd be a good fit in the back court with LB. Yet, he reneged on his promises twice to sign with the Kings. And we signed Banks, just like we signed Googs after Dyce walked out on us.
