Bench : Acie Law - Barbosa - KT - Marion/Stat - Matt Barnes
What we need:
Memphis: #4 pick
Chicago: #9 + Deng
1st round: Acie Law
Free Agent: Matt Barnes
What we have:
ATL '08
#24 #29
Banks, Diaw, Rose, Jones, Piatowski, KT
What I hope:
Iavaroni sees more potential in a diaw/banks combo than #4 in the draft
Memphis wants young playmakers already in the league to compliment Gasol
Bulls want Yi enough to trade Deng
What I suggest:
Banks + Diaw +ATL '08 to Memphis for #4
#4 + #24 + #29 + Jones/Piatowski/Rose/Suns Cheerleaders/Kitchen sink to Chicago for Deng + #9
(possibly switch around #24 and ATL '08 if needed)
What we get:
Deng from Chicago, Acie Law from #9 draft, Matt Barnes free agent
A deeper bench, a smaller cap tax, a winning team, all while keeping our trio.
Weak spots:
Getting the #4. It's been said Iavaroni sees potential in Diaw with memphis. I believe Memphis has enough cap room and need for playmakers to consider it. It seems Gasol is wary of fresh players not developing into anything, banks and diaw would bring guaranteed playmaking to gasol. While banks isnt worth anything to the Suns, there isnt a doubt he has talent, athleticism, speed, and would be a starter on any of the sub-.500 teams out there. Would this be enough to get memphis to consider giving up #4? A gamble on a draft rookie, or two seasoned teammates, one being a the best playmaking forward in the game?
Getting Deng. Chicago desparately needs scoring in the paint. Scouts are saying they desparately want Yi. Yi will go #4 or #5. If we can tempt chicago with the #4 hopefully they will budge and give deng up. While deng is a great value to chicago, he is one of their many mid range shooters they already have plenty of. Is deng more valuable than I think to Chicago?
Granted its a pipedream but that would give us everything we need without sacrificing anything we want to keep. Am I crazy?

1.) Ivaroni may see potential in Diaw.....but at the same time he MUST see MORE potential in a #4 pick, for 1/3 the price. simple. adding Banks is just a dump from the suns, and this trade eats every iota of cap space Memphis has. the RUIN their offseason for a "chance" at diaw being a "decent" player. any REAL GM would be fired for a trade like this.
2.) Rose is a FA. Pike has no value. so even if the first trade were done
No, but you're drinking the kool-aid that even the Suns are not selling.
Other teams are unlikely to gamble on players with a perceived negative value in the market place like Banks and Diaw. IMO, the Suns would probably have to give up at least a couple first round picks (including the Atlanta pick) plus a player like LB to get to #4. I'm not saying the Suns can't get to #4 or within the top ten range but they would likely pay a heavy price.
It is an interesting idea to think what the Suns could get if they packaged #24, #29 and the Atlanta pick next year. I think the Suns would do it for the right player. However, that Atlanta pick could still be quite valuable if the Hawks do a bad draft.
I guess I think you are wanting the Suns to have the pie filling and leave the other team with the crust. It has happened but not too often.

There are several problems most trade proposals run into. This is not to say something won't happen, but it is unlikely to look much like what has been discussed.
1. Diaw and Barbosa are base year contract guys. This means they can only be traded to teams with cap space due to the salary matching problem (the Suns only get credit for half of their salary in a trade).
2. Buying cap space is enormously expensive this year. There are four teams with significan cap space and a couple of others with so little they are likely to use their MLE rather than their space. This means that every cap driven trade has to be much more exciting than signing an unrestricted free agent.
3. Would you sign Diaw for $45 million if he was unrestricted? If not, then anything less than a lottery pick is not likely to change the dynamic. The combination of base year contract and being paid well above his current market value is too much to overcome.
4. Banks has negitive value right now. I keep hoping he will do well at summer league and training camp so the Suns can shop him, but the current cost of getting rid of him for cap space is going to be at least the Atlanta pick.
The current situation is sufficating, but I am not being blindly negative in bringing this stuff up. There may be opportuntieis to do things we have not considered, but they can't just ignore reality.

i dont know if/why chicago wants to give up deng. matt barnes is doable, but i think he might try to get back in at golden state. he was really enjoying his time there. the only big move i see the suns making is going for camby, not even sure that will happen though

You guys are way more constructive than ESPN's boards. The suns fans are all 12 years old trolls there
I know we are going to keep our core trio, I just really want to redo our bench/depth. Our roster is very disappointing with some of the silly contracts we have handed out in recent years. Diaw and Banks have talent, but nothing they have done constituted such high contracts on an already high salary team.
my wishlist:
1. for diaw to be more aggressive,
2. for banks to have more confidence,
3. for coach D to have a half court set plays and to play his bench

Add to that that we get Rasheed and Jarret Jack for Marion, trade JR for Posey, I'm all with you.
