If the Bucks become convinced that Yi won't play for them, would you accept the following trade for the Suns?
Shawn Marion ($16.4 million in 2007-08, expires 2009)
for
Bobby Simmons ($9.3, 2010)
Yi Jianlian (about $2.7 once signed, team options through 2011)
Milwaukee is under the cap and so could absorb the salary difference.
Simmons is nowhere near the player Marion is, but I would consider this if the Suns would then commit to spending their MLE -- which is the approximate salary difference -- on an additional player or two who could help, for instance Morris Peterson.

Is anyone really impressed with Dirk? For seriously?
Are you joking or do you not have any basketball acumen? The guy is an offensive freak... he may be goofy and gangly but he can put up points in a flurry. He also may not be the best defender but who cares when you're a 7 foot 3 point shooter and 90% from the line

Give me a break
maybe he's just joking..

If Yi becomes the next dirk I still wouldnt be impressed.

i'm impressed with his playmaking ability, not too much else. ive seen lots of european basketball, and 7-footers shooting jumpshots and 3s more than taking it onto the block is the norm there. sure his jumpshot is better than most of the guys in the nba, but i think marion does a better job posting up parker than dirk does to those who defend him. and his defense sucks as bad as nash's

What is the health status of Simmons? I don't believe he played at all last season.
Yes, as long as Simmons is healthy. He is a bad contract too, but a better 3-pt shooter and attacks the hoop better. And we have Yi's potential and could get some more body like Peterson or Devin Brown for 2/3 positions. That's a great deal for us.
Judging by Kerr's comments on the lottery he has no interest in Yi.
Even if we assumed Yi immediately became the next Pau, I'm not sure he'd be what the Suns need. At the position next to Amare, they need to play someone who is really tough or really fast. Yi is neither.
In other threads there has been a discussion about how the Suns need to play a big next to Amare (at least against low post threats) to keep him out of foul trouble. But Yi is considered very soft. He may be tall, but his value would be that of a small ball PF, not as a big.
