He's really not a point guard. I don't know how much I like the whole "two combo guards on the floor together equals one point guard" idea. Both he and Barbosa are a lot better off the ball, and I think Barbosa is a better player than West.
I actually think Delonte West is a perfect point guard for the triangle offense, though.

I haven't seen him play, but I kind of suspected that. On paper he looks a lot like Marcus Banks.

West is a much better shooter than Banks. In the Suns system he'd shoot over 40% I think. He's also a good defender, though not the physical specimen that Banks is. I do think Delonte has a fire to him and and good leadership skills.

The problem is West is a combo guard stuck in that "I am a point guard" mentality. He didn't take initially being pushed to the 2g very well.

West is a good combo G, if you have a versatile SG like Joe Johnson who can handle the ball and play some PG.
With Barbosa in the backcourt West doesn't seem to be his ideal partner.

Didn't West have a very solid year in 05-06?

I know he has his share of problems, and could be had off the waiver wire most likely - but what do you guys think of Telfair? He is definitely a PG, and has had some success (and is still only 21, and lost essentially all of last season).
West clearly has more value, and by all accounts is a better overall player at this point. If him and Barbosa didn't work out well together he would be very easy to trade again. If Boston were to agree to the proposed trade, I would be very surprised if they had any qualms about including Telfair too. I guess the question is would it be worth taking a chance on him for next sesaon while he is still on a rookie deal?

If he comes for nothing, of course, why not?
But I would give very reluctantly anything valuable for him, even #24.
Telfair is undersized, undisciplined and plays no defense. Exactly what the Suns do not need. And I have the feeling that he will have a hard time to stick in the league.

40% isn't good. He'd have to shoot 45% or higher.
