Chad Ford: Clips-Suns discussing trade
http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft...kDraft-070619b
Quote:
The Clippers like Acie Law, but from what we gather the team is talking with the Suns about trading the No. 14 pick and Corey Maggette to Phoenix for Boris Diaw, this year's No. 24 and No. 29 picks and the Suns' first-round pick in 2008.
The Clips might want to rethink that if Wright slips this far. He's the type of heady small forward that coach Mike Dunleavy has craved for years. If the Suns do get the pick, I think they'll go for Wright or Thaddeus Young -- two guys with some of the best upside in the draft.

Umm in a heartbeat..
We trade up and also turn Diaw into Magette? OK.
But we would still have to trade Marion, Thomas, Atlantas pick, #14 for KG and end up with Nash,Bell,Magette,Amare,KG.
Btw, this doesn't work under the cap.
Suns would likely pick Crittenton at #14 I would have to think, we haven't even worked out Wright or Young so far.

I don't know who they'd want at 14. I like Jason Smith a lot. He's a guy who could really compliment Amare on the floor.
I do know that this starting lineup looks good to me:
Nash
Bell
Maggette
Marion
Stoudemire
Bench: Barbosa, Jones, KT. Then you've hopefully got Grant Hill and whoever they take at 14.

Done, and done.
That is a no brainer.
It would also pretty much guarantee Marion being gone IMO.
You turn Marion, KT, JJ, ATL pick and a pick from this year (2nd) and you have KG.
Nash
Bell
Magette
KG
Amare
Barbosa, #14, Grant Hill/PJ Brown min vet deal.
Oh yeah!

Clippers get
Diaw, 24, 29, 2008 Phoenix pick
Suns get
Magette, Jamison, #14, #16, 2008 Washington pick
Washington gets
Marion, Banks
Now this actually works under the cap.
Amare/Thomas
Jamison/#16
Magette/Hill
Bell/Barbosa
Nash/#14

That's terrible!
Why would we trade Marion and Diaw, for Jamison and Magette? Who cares about those picks unless we can guarantee that we can move them to get into the top 6 or so. Even then I couldn't guarantee we would be a better team.

Trading Diaw for Magette isn't possible because Diaw is a byc. Basically trading Diaw is only possible if the salaries involved become big enough to fit his byc into the 125% window or when a team under the cap is involved..
Phoenix would also receive 5M$ less in salary in this trade than what we give up.

Good trade for the Suns, but is there a way to make the numbers work? Maggette is at $7.8 million for 2007-08 and Diaw's BYC is $9/4.5 million.
But:
Corey Maggette (7.8, 2009)
Aaron Williams (1.8, 2008)
Paul Davis (0.7, 2008)
total 10.3, can accommodate 13.0
Boris Diaw (9.0, 2012, counts as 4.5)
Marcus Banks (3.9, 2011)
total 12.9 outgoing, counts as 8.4, can accommodate 10.6
This should work, unless I'm misunderstanding the rules.

Yeah. I'm assuming that Chad Ford wasn't going to report on all the minor financial details during a mock draft. Both teams have enough filler contracts to make something work, I'm sure.

Its about time their is a ridiculous rumor in the media, in which the Suns are not getting bent over in the deal....
I like Diaw, but if we could get a Diaw 24 and 29 for Maggette 14 I would not even hesitate....
If that trade went down, and I would actually like to see the suns get nick Young, or to a lesser extent Jacaris critton... or Al thorton whos stock is supposedly dropping, or Thaddeus Young...
Common Suns, If this is Kerr's first trade I will be ecstatic! :notworthy

Defensively, it's the worst lineup Suns could ever have I'd think.

Thomas, Jones and #14 should be able to net us Camby after this. We would basically have a great starting 5 plus Barbosa and Magette off the bench and would have to sign a bunch of veteran bench players like Hill, Finley..

I like Javaris, too, but it sounds like he's going to Atlanta at 11.

That's a financial nightmare, though. Being able to add a rotation player for the money you'd be paying at 14, plus having potential for another guy who will be useful in the post-Nash era is huge.
I also don't see Denver sending Camby to a conference rival when both teams think they're championship worthy next year.
