Caron Butler (again)
with arenas gone for 3 months due to injury and the wizards' season apparently going nowhere, now would be our best chance to try and trade for caron butler. he would be a perfect 3 for this team...he defends very well, he shoots 3's he gets into the paint, he does it all. A deal based around diaw for butler maybe? maybe even marion for butler if they threw in some decent players. they get a solid young big in diaw with jamison certainly not getting any younger as well as possibly a pick or player (like strawberry or tucker). Arenas will be gone next year as well, and i can't imagine Jamison is going to be happy as the only star there (assuming Butler leaves after this year as well). we could potentially get:
Nash/barbosa
Bell/barbosa
Butler/Hill
Marion/Amare
Amare/Skinner
or something like that. that's all-stars one through five, with the former 6th man of the year and a great veteran coming off the bench to go along with skinner. Thoughts?

Like you said, Caron Butler is an All Star. Boris Diaw is Luke Walton with a different skin color.
Not going to happen even with the Atlanta pick. Boris Diaw is what's known as a bad contract.

I'd like to know which drug you use on their GM to convince him to give away Butler for DIAW and filler.
This makes as much sense as basing your trade ideas on NBA Live.

that's a good point however i think diaw is better than walton. walton is more perimeter-oriented while diaw is better in the post. diaw is slightly better on defense too, something washington could really use.
Marion is an all star who can't score as well as butler and is a much poorer shooter. I can't think of any players from washington off the top of my head that would make a deal for marion work out but i'm sure something interesting could be done

a deal based around marion for butler, as i said above then? we get a better shooter (and offensive player) who is equally as gifted on defense if not better. from what maybe butler can guard peja (unlike marion), wouldn't that be something!\
EDIT: playing with the trade machine a bit, i came up with a couple ideas. haywood might be good on this team. etan thomas might have been decent but he is just coming off of a heart surgery so...
btw i never knew arenas only made 12 million (with jamison making 16). he has the ego of a guy making 20million, go figure.

Why would the Wizards, who just lost their allstar point guard, move thier all-star top scorer who can create his own shot for an older player who cant create his own shot?

Because they have another guy in Jamison who can create his own shot for one thing. A frount court of Marion/Haywood/Jamison is certainly a force to be reckoned with, especially in the east (assuming we use david's idea and take blatche instead of haywood). We could throw in banks to help with their point guard situation. God knows that that team does not have a whole lot of ball movement going on anyway. Arenas is a shooting guard forced into the point guard position anyway, so they really haven't lost a ton of play-making ability when he went down.
another thing to bring up is that washington is falling apart... Jamison wants out, Arenas will be out next year, and that will all make Butler want to leave as well. They are going to have to rebuild here whether they like it or not. Say we give them the atlanta pick to help with that for one thing. Then with marion and jamison working the scoring, you still get some fans interested in coming to the games.

When did Jamison say he wanted out? Arenas has never said he wants out, he said he is opting out in order to get a new contract. He has even stated he wants to stay in Washington. We dont know Butler wants out. It seems youre making up scenarios to fall in line with your trade wishes.
Marion/Haywood/Jamison is equal or lesser to Butler/Haywood/Jamison. Washinton has little incentive to blow up their team.
I'd rather have Marion for another year and keep the ATL pick, wouldnt you?

Butler for Marion is just a stupid idea for Washington.
you've already stated that Butler is a better player than Marion.
he creates his own shot, plays better D, scores more, can distribute the ball....yet you'd still want Washington to throw in "some decent players."
Butler makes half the money Marion does, and is younger.
Marion wants an extention that pays him bank. and IF Arenas were bailing (which he's not), and Jamison wants out (which he's never said), then Washington would be in a rebuild mode. and why the hell would they center their rebuilding around a guy who wants $20mil, cant create his own shot, and makes twice as much as the guy who was traded to bring him in?
and Marion/Banks for Butler/Blatche is just as aweful.
Butler>Marion
Blatche>>>>>>>>>Banks
-------
need i go on?

The only player that Washington would accept for Butler would be Stoudemire, and that would absolutely kill our frontcourt. Now... if we traded for Butler and signed Brand :notworthy.

you mean trade amare for butler and sign brand? that would give us marion (assuming he stays)/brand/butler up front. that would be a solid defensive and offensive line up (both inside and outside).

We'd have to lose Marion for the cap space to sign Brand.
