Blazers interested in Marion?

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/...y-Bullets.html

Jarrett Jack and Zach Randolph are on the trading block, the Blazers are more or less out of the running for Rashard Lewis but are in the hunt for a big name small forward like Shawn Marion
I think Jack would be a perfect back up for Nash, and could even turn out to be a decent replacement(though I doubt it). The question is, where is the rest of the salary going to come from. It's obviously not Zach Randolph.

The thought of having a micro-fracture front court is less than appealing. Not to mention Randolph is a headcase.

There's nobody on Portland that would be worth giving up the rest of the salary to replace Marion. But here's an idea I came up with:

Phoenix Trades:
Shawn Marion

Phoenix Receives
Richard Jefferson
Jarret Jack
Nenad Krstic

Portland Trades:
Zach Randolph
Jarret Jack

Portland Receives:
Shawn Marion

New Jersey Trades:
Richard Jefferson
Nenad Krstic

New Jersey Receives:
Zach Randolph

I actually like this trade a lot and think it makes sense for all three teams.

The Suns get depth, a legit back up point guard and someone who can help replace what Marion does without having to pay that much money for one player.

The Blazers get a top notch small forward whose contract is less of an issue because the rest of their core is on small contracts.

The Nets get a low post scoring option to put with Kidd and Carter.

i dont see NJ giving up Kristic in any trade.....and Jefferson/Kristic for Randolph is way too much IMO. and Portland also gives up way too much talent for Marion. sure Randolph has character issues, but he was a stud last year. Jack on the other hand is perfect for them to build around.

we make out like bandits.

I'm going off what the article said. They want Marion and they have Jack and Randolph on the block. They also apparently have tagged Rodriguez as their point guard of the future. I'd be willing to make this trade without getting Krstic, but I don't think Jefferson is enough to get Randolph by himself. There needs to be someone else in there. Maybe a future first rounder, or Boone.

Blazers can be interested in a lot of things but we sure don't let them dump their unwanted pieces on us for Marion.

If they want him we would have to ask for guys like Webster, Outlaw, Aldridge or Roy..

And the above trade is horrific.

I would much rather have Delonte West and #24 than Sergio Rodriguez.

I really like Jarrett Jack, he could definitely be the heir apparent to Nash. LMA would be nice too.

Jack is not even going to be an upper echelon starting PG in the NBA let alone any kind of heir to Steve Nash.

If the rumors of Darius Miles being unable to play are true, I guess I could see the Suns getting him and then getting the insurance relief (he is due soon if he doesn't play again).

Of course it would still count against our salary cap, but it seems like that is the only way they could make up the money. That or shave off 6 million or so by taking on Raef Lafrentz (puke)

I think that POR can easily jump on this deal. With Kidd injured Jefferson has proved that he has almost every tools to become a dominant scorer. Plus he doesn't have Randolph's baggage.

For that swap they do not need the Suns.

I read elsewhere that the insurance protection is waived when the player is traded. Don't know for sure though. Man, those must be high premiums on those policies. Does every player have one set up by the league?

I have no interest in Zach Randolph at all. Steve Kerr has already said that character will be a big issue when it comes to aquiring players. Randolph to me is nothing more than a good player on a bad team. Someone had to score last year. He's too slow for the Suns offense.

i'm not too clear on the rules, so if someone could clarify. i know insurrance kicks in after two years on with a players injury. but two years from what?

Miles played in the last game of the 05/06 season. so technically he was still available up to the start of the 06/07 season. his microfracture surgery and unjury were announced in mid november.

so....would insurrance kick 2 years after the date of the announced injury, or 2 years after his first missed game?

either way....."soon" is more like 1+ years, and maybe not at all if Miles even sets foot on the court for a real game.

I think it is 2 years after his last game, and I actually thought that amount of time was shortened in the last CBA.

The insurance thing still kicks in if a player is traded, insurance comanies don't get off the hook if their player moved teams - that would be ridiculous.

I would have to look up on the timetable again though.
