The name Cardinals is not from the Bird it is because of the color of the Jerseys.
Someone said that the jerseys were not maroon they were "Cardinal Red" as in the Cardinal's of the Catholic Church.
So while you worship the Cardinals you are worshiping the Church of God and every as Holy as can be!
