I've been a long-time fan of Adrian Wilson and was never one of the guys ready to run him out of town. But Adrian Wilson has been the second- or third-best safety in the NFL pretty much his entire career.
Is Brian Dawkins a Hall of Fame safety? Dawkins was probably better than Wilson, but I don't think either deserves to make the Hall of Fame.
Wilson will make the Ring of Honor and after Fitz and Warner the most important Cardinal of the 21st Century. But you can't be a Hall of Famer if you're on your third contract before you decide to take a more vocal leadership role.

That has got nothing to do with being in the HOF. If vocal leadership was the quality you needed for the HOF Barry Sanders(and others) would never get in. All that matters is your play on the field.
Whether he gets in I don't know. But if he plays another 2 or 3 years at a high level I could see it.
Already is a 5 time pro bowler, 3 time NFL All Pro, been to a SB and is a member of the 20/20 club which is not all that big a club. Could possibly reach 30/30 with 2 or 3 more productive seasons.

It's matters when you're a borderline guy. Barry Sanders is without question one of the four best players at his position ever to play the game. Of course he goes in.
On the other hand, do you think that Joe Namath goes into the Hall of Fame with his career numbers if he's not Broadway Joe and sells the NFL to the Big Apple?

We beat the Steelers in the SB and both AWilliams and AWilson go in.

Talking about numbers, Wilson will not suffer from that. His combination of sack and int. totals will be pretty hard to ignore when he retires

The guy who belongs in the Ring of Honor is Fred Wakefield. He played Defensive End, Right Tackle and Tight End for the Cardinals and is the face of the Sun Devil Days for the Cardinals. I mean every time someone wants to talk about how awful things were back then Fred Wakefield is the first name mentioned.
The guy should have a statue outside the new stadium to honor all the poor souls who had the misfortune of playing for and watching the Arizona Cardinals during those trying times in that miserable stadium.

There should also be a statue of Jake Plummer...tackling a guy. He leads all QBs in the record books with tackles, gee I wonder how that happened

I thought Wilson was done. I have to give credit to Horton for using him in a way to optimize his value. Wilson was never great at coverage and he wasn't that good early in the year. Once everyone picked up the scheme, except Stewart Bradley of course, he returned to playing at a high level.

I think we are seeing Adrian Wilson playing within a system he believes in, and with players whom he has confidence in that they will be in the correct position.
I believe some of the struggles Adrian Wilson has had are because he has been trying to do too much and cover for his teammates mistakes. How many times have we seen Adrian Wilson in the area of a man wide open, and then heard the coaches state he wasn't responsible. I took that as coaches covering for a veteran leader on the team, but maybe it was very legitimate. Lord knows DRC wasn't the most deciplined player, and neither was Antrel Rolle while he was in Arizona.
Makes me wonder.

Sort of funny though that the knock on Wilson when he was younger was that he wasn't a disciplined player and got in trouble free lancing.

agreed with this. Playing for a team that's a perenial loser for the majority of Wilson's career hurts his ability to get into the HOF. He's been a VERY GOOD S and one of the top 5 at his position during the last decade, but I don't think he's at the level of a Polamalu, Reed and maybe Dawkins and those are probably the only Safeties that get in from this era.

That's the thing. Wilson is probably a better athlete and player than Weapon X, but national media types (you know, HOF voters) have seen Dawkins in the playoffs for a decade, as well as the occasional Thanksgiving game and a number of national features. But because Wilson has only had one lights-out playoff game (against Philly in the NFC Championship game in '08--in 2009 he was a non-factor when he wasn't getting run past by JerMichael Finley), and that was complicated by being on a team that couldn't play defense over the second half of the year.
Wilson has been a favorite of metrics guys for almost a decade now; maybe they continue to filter up and push out some of the more traditional "narrative" voters over the next 10 or 15 years.

The other thing that got Wilson publicity were his bit hits which got him time on ESPN among others. The last couple of years those get penalties and fines so now he doesn't do it as much. That will hurt him as well. But at least he still has enough of a rep to be selected to the semi(effort)pro bowl.
