What do you think our greatest needs are?
OK this may have been addressed in other threads, but I am lazy and don't feel like sifting through them all. The draft is less than a week away WOOOOO HOOOOO, and while I don't think we can properly address all of our needs, I want to know what you folks consider the most serous issues. For me it falls like this.
1. LB- ILB or OLB this is our greatest need(s).
2. OL- Tackle primarily, but we could use an upgrade at guard also. A better Oline will greatly benefit our next need.
3. QB- Right now we have Skelton, good-great tangibles, weak intangibles. Not happy if he is our starter next year, this is the position most likely to be addressed via FA.
4. TE- I don't care what anyone says we need one we can count on. A solid TE is the QB's best friend.
5. DE- I really like Campbell and Dockett, but both are made for the 4-3 defense. We need that DE who can chuck an opposing Olineman out of his way and free up the LB.
6. RB- I am still not sold on Hightower and Wells, however not sure if there is someone better in this draft.
7. WR- Aside from Fitz the rest are inconsistant.
The rest, our CB situation isn't bad, but if Peterson is the best guy at 5 take him, don't reach. This is because there is a huge drop in the CB position after the top 3. Safety, we nee a decent back up, Johnson hasn't shown he is more that an OK special teams player.

Assume for a moment that ya'll don't get your QB at #5 and wind up picking Peterson or Quinn(both great picks IMO)......i think drafting a TE like Kyle Rudolph in the 2nd rd would be a good move. You might even be in position to trade down a few slots and still get Rudolph because i think all the 2nd tier QB's will be targeted by several teams at the top of the 2nd.
Assuming Skelton or Bulger is your QB next season it would be a nice move to draft a quality pass-catching TE to provide a security blanket option when things breakdown in the passing game.

Doubt that Rudolph gets past Atlanta.

I believe that Mitch has pointed out exactly what the Cards greatest needs are. Forget the positions------simply put we need tough, self-starting players with 100 watt bulbs already switched on, and we need them virtually across the board.

1. QB
2. OLB
3. ILB
4. OT
5. C
6. CB
7. TE
If we are including needs aside from players I'd list Off. Coordinator & OL Coach as well.

You may be right.
That would be a good fit for Atlanta....but i'm not sold on the idea that at pick #27 they take a TE over some of the better value picks that always seem to slide to the bottom of the 1st rd. DE's like Adrian Clayborn,Justin Houston etc...Falcons need help there too.

Why isn't anybody listing DL? We have exactly 3 guys on the team at DL right now in CC, DD, and Williams.
1-QB
2a-OLB
2b-DL
3-ILB
4-OL
5-TE

First off, stop being lazy.
While QB is a glaring need, I do not wish to take one in the first round.
1. LB, both inside and outside
2. OL
3. DL
4. TE (but only if we ever decide to put one in play for real)
5. CB
I am not really interested in drafting WRs or RBs in this draft since I feel we have much greater needs to address. Still, if someone awesome falls to us and he's the best player on the board, I'll take a WR or a RB. I am all about upgrading the D and the offensive line.

With out a QB, where would we be? Oh yeah...5-11.
If we get a Bulger... 2-3. (injury by week 5)
If we start Skelton...6-9 7-9 8-8 (and we would know who he is) ((my favorite idea))
If we get a Palmer...9-6/10-5 at best...( but Palmer's maternity clock is ticking )
If we trade the house for Kolb...8-8/8-9 ( I can't justify the asking price, I already watched Philly rip Washington off pretty good)
If we get Smith who knows...but it wouldn't cost us any picks.
Stay far away from Orton and McNaab.
Draft Newbbert, if they aint there than our choice is defense and I hope we land a "younger" vet. If we give some QB their "last shot" like we did with Warner and DA.. it will probably be Whiz's last shot as well if the retread doesn't even make it around the track, much less victory lane.

Given that the Cards may not be able to pick up a FA QB until August or September this is the way to go. I even like Bartel in the mix. Then draft the QB from Alabama to be our #2 QB for the next 6 years. We can draft a QB next season when the team will know more about what they have in Skelton and the new draft pick will actually have preparation time for when he has to start after game 3 of the 2012 season because at $50million he's too expensive to keep on the bench.
Biggest need other than QB would have to be OLB where we have 2 old guys and one promising youngster, Schofield, and one career backup in Davis. Also TE where our group of players is almost as bad as the group we have at QB.
Dline? Until the lockout ends we still have Dockett, Campbell, Iwebema, Watson, and Branch. A group that will be yards better with the Big Difference starting at NT instead of Robinson.
