Trent Dilfer Picks Us to Win???

Per Sando's Blog:

"I'm picking them over the Giants this week because they possess the ball and their defense is never on the field for sustained periods," said ESPN's Trent Dilfer, the last quarterback to beat the Cardinals at University of Phoenix Stadium. "They don't get to third down. You see defenses change and Kurt Warner and [offensive coordinator] Todd Haley have an answer. You see perfect defensive plays against them and it's a 12-yard gain."

AND

Dilfer: "I think at home the Cardinals match up pretty darn well in this football game. I'm a Cardinals hater. I thought they stunk forever. I'm the last guy to beat them at home. That's saying a lot about how bad they [have been], but I'm a believer now because of what they have identified as their strengths and weaknesses."

AND

Dilfer: "Defensively, [coordinator] Clancy Pendergast was one of the real creative guys. They are so simple now. There are a lot of yards to have out there against them, but they don't give up a lot of touchdowns. Antrel Rolle is settling in at safety. The rookie corner [Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie] is coming on. Dockett can get to you."

I was listening to Cowherd on ESPN..both he and Mark Schlerith picked the Cards to win...Trey Wingo picked the G-men but said it would be tough...

I'm not surprised that quite a few experts are picking us to win. We match up well against the Giants.

The "same" Cowherd who blasted us...

about a week ago for being snow-whimps! His arguement was we might win a play-off game, play the next one on the East coast (ie: Giants, Eagles, Redskins) and get killed! Now, I see his point. Warm-weather teams CAN'T win in the cold, etc. BUT I seem to recall Tampa Bay going into Philly and beating them. Who's to say our guys might not play well in the snow. I think the New England game at the end of the year will be a good indicator. GO CARDS!

That's factually wrong. The Cardinals defense ranks 11th in yards per game (299.8) but 18th in points per game (22.8).

The Seattle game is a case in point. All three Seattle touchdown "drives" were very, very short after turnovers.

Good catch. In addition, even more directly contradicting Dilfer, the Cardinals are 25th in TDs allowed (28), and 32nd in receiving TDs allowed (19)!

Dilfer has actually been pimping the Cards for several weeks, now. Every week, when he's on Cowherd's show, he defends the Cards and says he's a believer.
