Thread Deletions

It is always a touchy subject when we stop freedom of speech. The recent thread that was deleted is a major subject in the news today and will likely have an effect in the NFL and how they treat or view head injuries. Perhaps some good can come from all this in causing the NFL to look at head injures even more. I can see why this thread might be deleted and I can also see why it might not. We cannot pretend bad things do not happen. Should we have deleted all the threads of our great DB who died in Afghanistan at the hands of his own troops? I think not. A lot of actual film was made on this subject. As an officer who on occasion had to send the effects of lost combat people back to their families I often found things I wondered if I should send back or not. In the end I chose to send all things belonging to the lost person to his home. I had no right to withhold anything. I am not critical of the moderators. They did what they thought was proper. I never did like being a moderator or web sites for reasons just like this.

That thread turned into something that had absolutely nothing to do with football. At 32 I have been around more than my fair share of death, most of them untimely and a couple were suicides. Although I respect the freedom of speech people need to realize that posting in this environment there may be people who will likely have a differing view and unlike arguing politics, that particular subject will effect and offend quite a few people on a personal level. That thread got way off topic and pretty heated I can see how and why it got locked. It was well deserved.

No more discussion about deleting / closing threads.
