since it appears he signed with the bengals...is it possible that we did not make him an offer and were not going to? I would think that if he signed with the bengals so quickly after leaving here - it would probably mean we gave signals to his agent that we would not be giving him an offer..he had nothing to lose by waiting for an offer from us..it could have only helped his negotiating with the bengals.. It is not like he ran off to a contender or anything..

I have been a little curious why we were not going after many d-tackles - I presumed it meant we had our eyes set on kennedy with the 6th pick.. but then I heard (probable rumor) that Kennedy was not an option with the 6th pick for us (local radio)..

I suppose another scenario is they think bryant has improved and tanner is good enough.. I noted last season that our defensive running game fell apart when tanner went down with an injury..could be a coincidence... Maybe we are going after a superior defensive end and linebacker corp ..and the coaching staff thinks a rotation of tanner, bryant and bell will come through in the middle.. who knows..

I think most of our problems on the line were due to inferior ends.

At the price tag, Thornton was clearly not worth about 4 million a year. I doesn't matter what the team offered, I'm just glad they didn't overpay Thornton, because he is not a star and doesn't deserve nearly star-like money.

i think he just wanted to play for marvin lewis. I think the bengals d will be one of the best in the years to come.

Shane, ESPN said time and again Lewis runs a system that doesn't suit players looking to pad individual stats. In other words, if they sacrifice the ME and play team defense, they kill. They also said some of the Skins players like Arrington didn't want to do that. IMO, I agree-that's why their defense didn't do too well.

Thornton is is a pretty good player, but not the type that Cards' defense need. He's a solid one-gap DT, but we need two-gap DTs. Hopefully we'll have one of the best one-gap DTs in Bryant this season or within a couple of seasons and will need a two-gap DT next to him to take up some room. Sam Adams or Big Daddy (probable June 1st cut) are better suited for our defense.

Sure, they had inflated attitudes and loved exposure...but they played within the system. They knew Lewis knew what he was talking about and they listened. Ray Lewis was a true freelancer, but that's what the system had him doing. The guys in Washington didn't listen. They didn't follow the system. Therefore, it didn't work. Marvin Lewis may not be the greatest D-Coordinator ever to coach, but I think he's pretty damned good, the entire NFL thinks so, most fans think so, and most players do too. Do you just have a thing about this guy that you hate him so much? Or if not hate, then disrespect him so much?

Nope I dont have a thing against him personally. The bottom line is I think he is overated as a coach. You could have given Marmie that Ravens team which had superior talent across the board at all positions and he would have most likely won a SB. I dont think that Lewis system is the tell all to what made them successful.

He had the almost the same type of talent in Washington. It is the job of the coach to get the players on the same page and make them follow there defensive assignments. if the Redskins werent doing that then it falls back directly on the coach. Not the players. JMHO!
