Sports Center
It is midnight in Little Rock. I just got in on a discussion on Sports Center of the Cards Monday night game. They said San Francisco had terrible game management. They also said there was really only one dominant team in the NFL and that was the Giants. How they left out Tennessee I do not know. They basically said the Cards had as good a shot in the playoffs as nearly every other team except the Giants. They noted, as we all know, we have no running game. I wonder if our GM and Coaches understand we have no running game? Will we address that through the draft or FA? We do not need another 30 plus year old expensive FA running back. These guys have the shortest careers of any position of any in the NFL. The average being only 4 years. Most teams are going with two good RB's rather than one back so as to keep fresh legs in the game. You are lucky to make it through a season without your primary RB getting hurt. We sure need to make that a very high priority next season. Most of us thought we should have drafted a RB higher than we did this year. Anyway, we are getting some air time and some respect on TV these days. I like Hightower but he is no Adrian Petersen and he will likely be a backup type RB for his career.

Funny, everything I've seen/heard says the Cards have no business going to the playoffs, they will win their division by default, the MNF game was gifted to them yada, yada, yada.
Oh, yeah, I'm pretty sure our GM and coaches know we have no running game
It's the o-line, not the running back. I just don't think they are physical enough to be a run-oriented team right now.

Does anyone know were you can find a breakdown of types of running plays and the YPC on each? To me it seems like TH did good on most of the dive plays and got smoked on the long developing plays like the draws. It could be selective memory, which is why I would like to see the stats.
Sometimes it comes down to play calling and coaching more then ability of the player. I seemed like 80% of the runs against the 9ers were draws and none of them worked. Why keep going back to them??? Why put your players in a position to fail???

I don't care who the back is, if he is being hit consistently in the backfield, the problem lies with the guys up front.
Nothing kills a running game faster than defensive players in the backfield. Our O Line is the problem, not our backs. Until they can get a push up front, they won't be able to run on anyone.

I don't see it that way at all. No big deal.

I don't care what RB lines up in the backfield, the OL needs revamping in the off season. They're decent at protecting Warner but they're below average in the running game. Hopefully they spend some draft picks on some maulers this year.

The blocking on the front line is good enough to protect our QB but the lack of having healthy TEs is killing us. We can't seal off the ends to allow our running backs room to maneuver.

Warner is very effective out of the shotgun, and you have to try to keep the defense honest with some running plays to soften up the secondary a bit. Therefore you get a lot of draw plays out of the formations we run. In theory that should be a situation for success since the defense has to be prepared for Warner's magical arm at all times.
