So the three "top three" QB's to start salivating over going into the 2005 draft
I'm sure the talk will start soon.......so I'll get it going early......which of these three QB's will go 1st......Kyle Orton (my guess as the Roesthlisberger equivalent); Andrew Walter (probably the purest passer in the draft) or Matt Leinart (a Carson Palmer clone).
So, before we start the "draft the QB posts"........I'll still go on record as saying that I'm happy with the three we got.

I cede all decisions regarding QB to Dennis Green at this point.

4 Aaron Rodgers Cal. he won't really go first because of his height and coming off knee surgery, but he is really good, he's much better than Boller was at the same stage.

Russ,
Boller ins't/hasn't been all that impressive. I believe these three will be as good as in ANY years top three.

sure it - when someone has shown the ability in the past to do something very well - I'll give them all the credit and support in the world. DG has shown the ability to do wonders with every QB he's ever had - and I've applauded his handling of Josh - he took him out exactly when I thought he should be taken out against the Falcons - and I agreed with starting him against the Saints.
Hell - I even stopped talking about wanting a franchise QB after DG came on board because I had faith in him to either develop Josh or get someone else in there. I also started an entire thread in the preseason about how this team was finally going in the right direction because I thought DG had found our Franchise QB in Josh.
I'll give people the benefit of the doubt when they've earned that distinction - always have, always will. What I WON'T do is praise players simply because they put a Cardinal jersey on or praise Front Office men just because they've been hired by the Cards. I'm a show me guy and once you do - I'm your biggest fan.
Some people just like to believe their first impressions about people and then they steadfastely stick by them as far as what their views are for the rest of time here it seems. Hell - I'm still even being called a darksider by people . . .

This is some bad analysis. Walter is more like Palmer considering their bigest question marks are around their accuracy and other intangibles such as awareness with cannons for arms. Leinart has an average arm but is very accurate and has great awareness for a collegiate player. I haven't seen Orton much so I won't comment but Aaron Rodgers should also be somewhere with these guys.

I don't like Leinert that much, he's a product of the system.
I'm tempted to say that same thing about Aaron Rodgers. Jeff Tedford has made MANY QBs look much better than they were. Akili Smith and Kyle Boller are two examples of guys who flourished under Tedford, but were total busts in the NFL (I think Boller is on that track).
The kind of numbers Orton is putting up are not a fluke. He's looking like the Peyton Manning of college football right now.

Sure but Boller was a first round pick, so will rodgers be, he'll go higher, even Tedford says he's better than Boller.

Orton is as much a system QB as Rodgers is.
Purdue has put out as many QB's as Tedford.

Disagree.
Besides Brees, which other Purdue QB has made it in the NFL? and Brees may not be more than a marginal starter in the league.
Tedford was partly responsible for, Boller, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, AJ Feeley, David Carr and Trent Dilfer., and not one has fulfilled expectations to date. Sure some are still developing, but people expect more out of Carr and Harrington by now.
I think the common denominator is that Tedford makes QBs look better than they are.
But don't misunderstand, I think Rodgers is a great prospect. He's got a great arm and great accuracy, but I take a discount on any Tedford product.

I got to go with Orton. Watched him play a couple times this year and he is amazing. I think Passer rating system is one of the best ways to judge a QB's stats and Orton has a 141 passer ratting so far and is tops in the nation. Rodgers has 128, Walters has 102.4, and Lienart has 112.4.
Plus a couple of intangibles beside his stats is that Orton already plays in a pro style offense which will make his transition to the NFL much more smooth plus his coach lets him audible of which his coach says that he does 1/3 of the time. Very smart kid who also has some pretty good feet to get out of a jam.

I don't know what all the hype is with Walter, aside from being a local product I see him getting all kinds of national pub as well. I just don't see it, he's a stiff in the pocket(almost ZERO athleticism), he makes some terrible decisions(that he inexplicably gets away with), he's not very accurate(low completion pct for a senior starter) and he just doesn't appear to have that swagger or poise I see in a top prospect.
He's got good size and a strong arm but thats as far as it goes...and I am an ASU fan by the way so I have seen him play a lot. I hope that we stay away from him if we even consider a QB next year.
