If Mangold or Gilles are at #41, I'd be happy with either.

If we do match Wells offer, I like that one with insert the best available OL in round 2 not just Jon Scott.
If we do not match Wells offer.
I think we have to get two OL in the first 4 rounds anywhere. Depending on other FA's of course.

You would be able to trade down 10 spots to get Sims. I like Simpson in the 2nd too, but there will be very good OL's there too. Klpfenstein in the 3rd is a go also.
Talk about your other picks - what do you know about them?

I like your 3rd round possibilities. Salley's not there in the 4th IMO.

I'm telling you guys, Ernie Sims is going to be a problem once he gets in the league. Don't sleep. He's going to go higher than you think. If we don't pounce on him and he goes to St. Louis (where some people are slating him to go now) and I'm going to be pissed.
While there will good OL in the second, look at who is doing the drafting here. He goes after impact players first day (especially so in his third year) and Ko would immediately shore up our saftey trouble.
OT Guy Whimper, East Carolina - 6-foot-4 3/4, 305, 4.95 - He seems like a Denny pick because he's real athletic and has loads of potential, at the same time, however, he's a project. He's like Seth Wand of 2003 version 3.5. Lots of teams are high on him.
Quote:
Strengths:
Has good size and the frame to bulk up further...An outstanding athlete with great quickness...Has excellent feet and is very mobile...Still a blank slate who can be molded since he doesn't have many bad habits yet...Has a ton of upside.
Weaknesses:
Extremely raw and needs a lot of development...Needs to work on his technique and must master the nuances of the position...Does not use his hands well...Gets by solely on his athleticism at this point...Had trouble staying eligible in college.
|
DT Barry Colfied, Northwestern - 6-foot-4, 304, 4.94 - Has very good hands and would fit well in the NT rotation. Very good at all, but a master at none so to speak.
Quote:
Strengths:
Has good size and a big frame...Athletic with good speed and quickness...Very strong and powerful...Plays with good leverage and gets a push...Does a superb job of locating the ball...Stout at the point and defends the run very well...Smart with good intangibles...Has a lot of experience and proved to be very durable.
Weaknesses:
Is not a great pass rusher or sack artist...Tends to wear down and needs to increase his stamina...Lacks a nasty demeanor on the field and can be more aggressive...Never focused on one position...Might be a DE / DT 'tweener.
|
DT Kedric Golston, Georgia - 6-foot-4, 300, 4.90 - He could be gotten possibly in the sixth, but his athleticism would be very intriguing for some teams. Sounds like another Denny pick.
Quote:
Strengths:
Has good size and the frame to add even more weight...An outstanding natural athlete...Great speed and quickness...Can penetrate and cause a commotion in the backfield...Has a burst & closes fast...Strong and powerful...Still has upside.
Weaknesses:
Was not very productive during his career...Often times plays too high and with poor leverage...Has dealt with some injuries and durability is a concern...Ran into some trouble off-the-field and character is a concern...Probably an underachiever.
|
Out of the two DL I'd choose Colfied.
DB Antoine Bethea, Hampton - 5-11, 203, 4.39 - Honestly, he most likely won't be here, but a brother can dream. He returned kicks in high school and lay down the law. He can add depth to our secondary and become Leron McCroy for our special teams.
Quote:
Strengths:
Very athletic...Has great speed and quickness...A big hitter who can really lay the lumber...Tough and physical...Playmaker who is always around the ball...Has fluid hips and is able cover in man situations...Was very productive in Division I-AA.
Weaknesses:
Undersized and doesn't have the height you look for...Can be too aggressive at times...Did not play against a high level of competition...Prone to being faked out and fooled...Is still very raw and needs a lot of technique work and refinement.
|
WR Willie Reid, Florida State - 5-foot-10 1/2, 188, 4.39 - Now that he's increased his stock, he won't be here realistically. He'd be excellent as a kick returner for us. He's a poor man's Santana/Sinorice Moss.
Quote:
Strengths:
A good natural athlete...Speed and quickness are exceptional...A terror in the open field who can create after the catch...Versatile with experience at multiple positions...Great return man...A hard working team leader with top intangibles.
Weaknesses:
Does not have great size...Has questionable hands...More of a finesse receiver who struggles with physical corners...Has had some injuries and durability is a concern...Raw and needs to master the technique & finer points of the position.
|
Well, sans the last two picks, overall I think this would be a realistic draft that some would be satisfactory with.

Also, someone close told me that you could see Wroten slide all the way down to the fifth round.

That's an awsome summary - Thanks alot - you did your homework. I could definately live with that draft. You could be a scout.

I'm not sure that I'd draft Mangold with our 2nd round pick.....#41 overall.

Salley is falling for some unknown reason. Who would have thought that Shazor would go undrafted last year. I definitely think Salley will be there in round 4.

He might be taken in the 1st. He's an upgrade at C. It's suspect on this line.

1st- Jimmy Williams Virginia Tech, This would cap off our secondary IMO. To get a guy with his size and athletic ability makes our DBs pretty darn good.
2nd-Barry Colfield NorthWestern, This is the perfect replacement for Russell Davis.
3rd-Andrew Whitworth LSU, A long tall tackle with great upside and great value in the third.
4th-Tim Dobbins Iowa State, One of the true inside linebackers in the draft. Leader on a good defense and out played better known players.
5th-Charles Gordon Kansas, Thought I'd give a 5th rounder too. He hurt himself at the combine with a slow fourty time, but evertime I saw this kid he made plays. This is really a special teams pick as he returned kicks and punts and was very good at it. You get an added bonus with Gordon because he played both CB and WR in college. Could really help on special teams and as a depth player.
