Great. Let's take a back in the 5th we could've drafted in the 7th, after passing on pretty much the entire body of a very deep RB draft class. Sweet. Reaching for need is so cool!

Do you really think if Mike Mayock has him rated in the "Best 5 Still Available" when we picked him he would've lasted two more rounds? Mayock isn't God (I think he's wrong on McFadden), but he's now the best in the biz.

I'm no scout and just a fan. Obviously, the Cards saw something in Hightower and doubt our war room makes decisions without having an idea what other teams might think of a player as well. They pulled the trigger on Hightower because they researched him and liked what they saw and felt it a risk that they might lose him if they did not move on the pick. A lot of people have brought up Willie Parker as a player not many knew about, maybe a little more people called scouts knew somthing about Hightower and the Cardinals did not want to wait on the pick. Just a thought. I will trust Whis and company on this pick

Well then that seals it. For me at least. If he was rated as one of the best available at that point, and our scouts loved him, and his tape is reflective of his talent, then it was a damn nice decision to snatch him up there.
I'm just happy we came out of this draft with A freaking runningback.

If you can call pretty much anyone a reach in the 5th round. Name players don't always work out either, especially if they're there in the 5th round. It's usually for some reasons.
We definately didn't do any reaching in the first three rounds. That might be kind of a record for us.
I would have traded up in the 3rd to select Jamaal Charles, it would have been a great draft w/ just DRC, Campbell & Charles, I could have handled the other 3 picks as long as we ended up with those 3 in Round 1-3.

See, you nailed it for me, although I'd have taken Smith in Rd 3.

Very much agree. It is simply so frustrating for me, though, to watch one of the deepest RB classes of recent memory pass us by, and we have to settle for Hightower out of Richmond. Not even a speed guy the team told us it wanted. I apologize for sounding bitter, but all this optimism in the face of our utter failure to get one of the good RB prospects just isn't enough for me.

despite the whining by cbus and cardsfanmd and others, i think we have edge's replacement for when he retires. i really think this kid will burst onto the scene. this year he can be primarly a spell for edge and a goal line guy, but i DO think he can be a homerun threat. i really am liking this pick the more i see about it.

Mendenhall would have been nice. But I'm pumped about Campbell too. Good draft IMO.
I'm sure they wanted a RB in the 3rd but didn't have that opportunity and the first teams there must not have taken any offers. Choice was the highest rated then and they didn't like him. Hightower will be every bit as good as him.
Plus Carthon can work with him. He likes him.
