Maybe someone should start a "I here a lot about" thread about Hightower like we had when Boldin was a rookie.........worked out pretty well last time.....

I have not read past page 1 when this started. Are we (collective) trying to break the Guiness record for most pages of commentary for a fifth round draft choice.

I have a sneaking suspicion that we have another Boldin type surprise on our hands.
Let's not get waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of ourselves.
Man there's 11 pages of comments already. It's too late to get ahead of ourselves. I just hope Mo's money back guarantee extends to my new jersey purchase.
You also have to take into account .5 second reaction time. (on average) Some players are even slower.
I think Mayock brought up a similar idea or along the same lines. Talked about game speed and guys taking wasted steps or guys not taking wasted steps. Meaning a guy might be fast but he might get to a play just as fast as an average speed guy becuase he takes more wasted steps then the average speed guy. I think he brought this up when talking about Early Doucet actually.
A good reaction time, not taking wasted steps, and good angles could actually make an average speed guy a lot faster on the field then a burner in the 40.
where's the video of hightower? i can't find it. i want to be scared.

1-800-BEATASU? really?
I crunched the numbers my own way - normalizing 40 yard times to yards per second (ignoring the reaction time because it doesn't exist at the combine - since there is no gun or ball snap to start their runs). I then assumed that the average back would be at max speed within 7 yards (probably a serious source for bias). Even after 100 yards (assuming they maintain max speed for 100 yards) the difference between a guy running a 4.29 and a guy running a 4.6 is around .5 yards. Some of these guys' shoe sizes are close to a half yard. Make your own judgements about 40 times, but shuttle runs, vertical leaps, and drills seem more indicative of explosiveness and game speed.

Actually you have a "hope" based on "hope". What are the odds on a 5th round running back emerging as a starting RB? Slim at best. Many of us are sort of in denial we did not go early for a RB like Mendenhall. It will be fun or hurtful to see how our DB vs Mendenhall turns out this year. Some have posted they do not think Cromartie will start this year which is possible as it does take some time to develop most DB's. Hightower on the other hand will be easy to judge rather quick as he can either run at this level or he cannot. Probably in training camp we will know just how good Hightower is or is not.
