they're also giving up 23 ppg. I'm guessing that may have something to do with our DC as well.
I don't think Pendy's a BAD DC. I just think he's mediocre and we can do better.
Part of it sure and part of it is on the personnel. We run a high risk, high reward defense that's heavy on blitzing.
We don't have the defensive personnel to run a base defense and rely on that. We tried that the first half of the MNF game and that didn't work out too well.

Maybe so but yesterday they scored TD's on drives of 19, 11, and 14 yards.
Not to mention on one of the drives it took them 4 downs in a goal-to-go situation, and on another they basically had 8 tries inside the 10.
I think the defense played really well yesterday. The score is deceptive as is the per game average because of the 50+ that the Jets hung on us...the defense was put in some bad spots in that game.

Everyone is open to some criticism, but the guy has done a fine job this year....he is dealt a hand and he has to play the hand he is dealt and has done it well.
Is this going to be bumped every week for the rest of the season?
The actual defensive adjusted rating according to the football outsiders people is in the middle somewhere around 15. I'm not that down on Pendy, I don't think he's the best coordinator in the world but he's better than some people give him credit for and I think that has a lot to do with the bad couple years his defense had when the team flat out quit on Dennis Green.
In all honesty, does anyone think our defense is in the upper half of the league when it comes to pure talent? Not to worry, barring a complete meltdown it's widely assumed Pendergast gets a head coaching gig somewhere this offseason so we'll see what exactly he is/was made of at that point.
Personally, considering this team's track record of hiring assistants I'm a bit skeptical on the assumption that we can find a superior coordinator rather easily.
Pendy got kudos again today on the ESPN football podcast Jeremy Green and Len Pasquarelli. Said he'll be in discussions for HC jobs this offseason and the defense in AZ is much better than people give them credit for.

I am not a Pendy hater but that is surprising info.
Seems like the Peter Principle in play...and I just can't see an owner giving Pendy a HC job.

Hopefully a team will make him a HC then; it'll diminish them and help us out.
I didn't see the game at all, so I can't comment on it. I will say that 22 turnovers is great, but if Pendy didn't get scared and stop being aggressive half the time, that number would be greater. He'll come out and call a good series, or a good quarter, and then he'll go completely conservative and allow even bad teams to absolutely rule our defense because he'll stop blitzing. He'll also go into prevent when we aren't even at the end of the game (and even when we are). With our pass defense, we should NEVER be rushing less than 4, and should be rushing more most of the time.

Thank you for breaking the circle of suck, Bidwill--Stout, December 7 2008.
Again, the main problem we have defensivly is against the pass. Against the run, we are pretty decent. With both starting CBs playing hurt, our best CB being a rook, and last years CB starting out as saftey, this is not surprising, and there is little a new DC could do about it. Were kicking ass now, and our Pass D will improve in the future. And yes, I think we need to play the rest of the season like it's the Apocalypse, but with this squad the future looks even better.
What the defense HAS to do is avoid A) missed tackles and B) stupid penalties. Of course, when you overcompensate on on you get the other.
Don't panic. Our D isn't losing games for us, and Kurt and company can outscore anyone. As long as they refrain from turning over the #@$#@$#@ ball.
