OT: Is Bill Belichick the reason for Tom Brady's success?
Matt Cassel has had back to back 400 yard games and has had a pretty good season. That being said, if you look at Brady's first full season and Cassel this year, the numbers are pretty similar. I think Belichick should get more credit for Brady after seeing what a guy that never started a college game is going in the NFL. And to think, he backed up Matt as USC.
Belicheck is a genius but no Brady is a legit superstar. They are smart about the way they have brought Cassels along nicely. The guy hasnt played since high school which is amazing but he is a great athlete. That's why the Pats drafted him.
Besides it's easy to play quarterback in the NFL.
It's quite possible Matty isn't as bad as we all thought, he just couldn't beat out a current MVP candidate.
Fixed that for you. After this week, Warner is by no means the favorite. Maybe he'll show up big vs. Philly but I don't think he's going to be able to hang on. Brees will match whatever numbers Warner puts up at the end of the year and I think he's a less dubious pick. As much as Warner is generally liked, he's got a stigma about him that doesn't come across as crispy clean as Brees.
Not to mention, Brees is tearing it up with no running game and his star players constantly hurt.
That's just assuming Brees is the competition. Favre will be there too if the Jets take the East. Warner will have to really shine the last 1/4 of the season and I don't see that happening the way his numbers have gradually been on the decline. Lot's of yards but not too many TD's.
Romo and Manning aren't out of the discussion just yet either. Warner just doesn't have that kind of love from the voters if the stat's are close at all.

Good thought about Brees. However, when was the last time someone was elected league MVP from a team with a losing record? Ever? I don't think it's ever happened. I can't remember a time that a someone got MVP from a team that didn't qualify for the playoffs.

That's what the Offensive Player of the Year is for.
I'm still seeing people listing Warner as the favorite for MVP, because the Saints face an uphill battle for a playoff spot. If they make it, though, he'll almost certainly win the MVP.
