Monday Night Football and other musings
da Raiders vs. da Bronco's..........it will be fun watching this game having our first W under our belts. Of course, I'll be looking at Plummer closely, not to wish him ill will, but rather to reinforce how lucky we are to have Blake.
Many think that we were really after Stewart during the QB FA period and opted for Blake becuz Kordell was playing games with us. I don't think I agree with this. I think that the front office knew we were going to have a raw WR group and their decision to go with Blake was influenced by his ability to bring raw talent to the surface. So far, it's been a stroke of genius. It will be fun to watch Jakes "wobbly ducks" versus Blake's pin point spiral passes however. Blake has always proved capable of making a star out of a raw receiver on every team he's played for. Looks to me like he'll have a chance to leave a legacy for us here after his contract expires.......two WR studs. Can anyone see Blake as a QB coach when he hangs them up? Sure hope it's with us.
On this tangent, as others have commented on, what a STELLAR job of pass/blitz blocking on the part of Emmitt. I had never appreciated this part of his skill repertoire before. So as much as he is contributing to the team as a motivator, he's also contributing on the field. Shipp will quite simply become a much more complete player when Emmitt is finished with him. Can anyone see Emmitt as a RB coach when he hangs it up. I know, he won't need the job for the money (I understand that he's invested wisely and managed his financial resources so that he could have retired years ago) but he's the type of guy who his troops would follow over the cliff if necessary.
Anyone questioning the move of Kendall to C. He might just be headed to the Pro-Bowl as a result of this move. In my mind he's been the best O-Line player so far this year. Was this planned you ask? Probably more than we all realize. Getting Spikes seems to indicate that a master plan was in the minds of Graves et al. And isn't Spikes making a nice contribution.
I thought that Clement played a good game yesterday......and so did LJ. If I'm coach Mac, I'm keeping Davis out until he's completely healthy. No panicing yet. Get him out there when he isn't favoring any injury at all. And I'd also ask him to make a financial contribution to Amputees of America for the bone head fight with KVB that broke his hand. It may have cost us the Detroit game.
We really do have the potential of exciting offensive football this year.
Now back to Jake.......please play like you are capable of playing. It will remind us just how lucky we are that you somewhere else!
