ML performance so far

Am I the only one who is surprised that Matt Leinart has as many INTs at TDs? Living out east I have watched every game except the Dallas game (2 picks). Perhaps it has to do with the fact I have grown so accustomed to the crippling game changing INT that his predecessors seemed to throw. He just seems to have played better than his stats indicate. I truly love how comfortable he looks out there managing the game, running the offense and reading the D and making changes at the line. I am also glad to see the shotgun employed in non-traditional downs.

I know this happens all over the league, but at least 2 of the picks aren't on him. Last week's "interception" to Peterson and the hailmary at the end of the game against...the Vikings? I'm blanking on that one...

He had a three game stretch that was badddddd--

at Oakland, at GB and home against Dallas

since then he has been really good

I'm just happy he has TD passes--that's hard for a lot of rookies. He's had some bad INTs, some that weren't his fault, and some that weren't INTs at all (but the officials called them such).

- At least one of those picks was due to an end-of-the-game Hail Mary.

- Season-to-date stats do not reflect "trend." Matt's interceptions per game have dropped as he's gained more & more experience.

Leinart has not yet flashed the gaudy heroics of a Vince Young or a Carson Palmer. But what's impressed me is the way he's quietly gone about doing his job. He looks like a veteran QB back there - does what's asked of him, makes most of the plays and doesn't often beat himself with mistakes.

What you look for from Leinart is not a quantum leap from raw rook to exciting playmaker but rather steady improvement from game to game so that one day you wake up with a perennial Pro Bowl QB and no one can quite figure out how he got there.

Sure he has the problem is Rackers missed the kick both times so everyone forgets that Matt drove us right down the field against both KC and Chicago in his first 2 starts at the end of game. That was brilliant, if we win both those games(KC would have been OT) Matt's a legend, first rookie QB to throw 2 TD's in the first quarter of his first 2 starts, first rookie QB to lead his team to a 4th quarter comeback in his first 2 starts.

Actually, he has to some extent...Has he ran 40 yards for a TD in OT to win a game??? No...But, he rallied the team against the Cheifs and Bears and put them in a position to win, but the kicker let us down. In those two games (and even the end of the Vikes game) he showed leadership and poise well beyond his years.

X 2. VY wouldn't have won the Indy game without a superhuman effort by Baronas. It takes other guys to step up too. The last 3 games everyone has been.

russ.......an OUTSTANDING point. From what I see, if there was ever a second coming of steve young...this is it. the only thing to hold him back will be a second rate supporting cast...and i don't see that happening.

This is the second time this week I've heard someone on the board compare ML to Young. Why is that? Because they have dark hair and are left handed? BEcause beyond that, the similarities sorta stop.

If we insist on comparing him to SF greats, I'd say he's closer to Montana than Young.

Both are very accurate passers, and underrated as athletes. I say there are more similarities than you are giving credit.
