Mike Martz is a flaming idiot.

I told you guys that the hire of Mike Martz as OC would be a freaking train wreck and was one of the very best offseason moves for US. I wrote this on the day he was hired:

http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/...9&postcount=25

He flat out sucks. He sucked as a head coach, he sucks as a coordinator. He's a loser and every check he gets from the NFL here on out is stealing.

He likes puppies though, so he isn't all bad.

He should give his Super Bowl ring to Kurt Warner.

Nah. Martz was a huge reason that Warner has a ring. (And vice versa, obviously.) Since then, his ego has gotten bigger and bigger and bigger to the point that I'm surprised he can get his head through the hole of a shirt that doesn't have buttons.

He is a fascinating guy but you do sometimes get the impression that he'd rather lose his way than win "conventionally."

I'm amazed at how much more he ran the ball last night.

I am amazed they didn't try to throw it in at the end as they came all the way down the field with ease then decide to not even take a shot? THank you from us Cards fans that were sure something bad was going to happen.

I prefer Whiz' sideline demeanor.

Mike Martz isn't a bad guy or a bad OC, given the right HC he'd be fine.

He needs some discipline but he's not a good fit with Singletary for obvious reasons IE he's not a power run OC.

I'd take him in a heartbeat as an OC, but you just have to treat him like you're crazy genius uncle, you use the good stuff and pass on the bad stuff.

You'll never filter out all the bonehead out of him but if you do it right you'll get enough of the genius to make it work.

Yep. He's got a lot of ideas about how teams should do things differently, and he doesn't accept conventional wisdom. Which is fine. I happen to agree that a lot of things teams do they do because they're hidebound and unwilling to try anything different, so I'm all for going outside the norm if you've got good reasoning behind it. But some of his methods aren't really based on anything concrete, and when his stuff is called into question he gets stubborn and refuses to change. And generally, conventional wisdom, even when it's wrong it isn't ridiculous, whereas one guy who refuses to listen to anybody else is going to be ridiculous a fair percentage of the time.

I wouldn't hire him as an OC anymore. I don't think his ego will allow him to be filtered enough to be effective anymore.

Plus, the league has caught up to what he does. And since he refuses to adjust much, he's just not that effective anymore.

Martz' hands were tied last night...Singletary has changed the offensive philosophy to ball control and Martz was following orders...kind of the way Dennis Green demanded the Cards run the ball ad nauseum in the MNF Bears game...and then put the blame on the OC, even firing him afterward.

Martz called a good game and the offense was prepared...his QB, Shaun Hill, whom Martz did not promote to starter (Singletary did), made several huge mistakes in the fourth quarter.

If Singletary gets the job, Martz will be gone.

He should do what June Jones did at Hawaii: take a college program, throw the ball 56 times a game and put up huge stats and an exciting up tempo product.

I can't believe anyone seriously attaches the "genius" tag to Martz anymore. His offenses have consistently led (or been very close to the lead) the NFL in turnovers. He's HORRIBLE. If he was our OC, I'd give up my season tickets. There's no way I'd pay that much to watch our QB get slaughtered and blow games with killer turnovers.
