Martz to SF

As Offensive Coordinator, according to PFT. It's a done deal.
(Consider the source)

Good news for the Cards if this is true. Gore has just been marginalized and Smith will be asked to carry his team.

If anyone can turn a garbage passer into an elite, it is martz. I do not like him coming to our division again.

Good for 9ers. Shaun Hill will now be the starting QB. BTW, Gore is a very good receiver out of the backfield.

Faulk was the key to everything in STL. Kevin Jones and Tatum Bell were no where close to being a good enough RB for Martz's system. Gore is better, but is it enough?

It was PFT reporting on an Adam Schefter of NFL Network story.

I dont like this for the Cardinals.

Martz has earned a lot of criticism but he's at his best as an OC. He is by no means flawless but I bet if you asked Clancy, he doesn't relish the idea of going against him. His track record with QB's is hard to debate too. Consider that Green, Warner, Bulger and Kitna were all low round/undrafted/castoffs. If Smith is even remotely deserving of his draft spot, it will be the choicest starting point that Martz has had to work with. SF won't have the same trouble running the ball that Detroit had and Martz has utilized RB's very well in the past. His reputation isn't necessarily deserved in that regard. Faulk, Canidate and Jackson all did pretty well under Martz. Not good news for NFC West defenses.

Millen made Martz a scapegoat at Detroit. They should fire Millen.

I think Clancy had his shot at Martz this year with a much more accomplished QB and much better weapons. And i think we handed him his a$$.

Color me not worried.

I like it. SF offensive line will have to vastly improve if there's going to be any hope for smith/hill. The offensive line sucked in pass protection giving up 55 sacks this past season.

Well, Kevin Jones coming off of injury and a horrible o-line is going to be a little different than Gore in a Martz offense. Gore is already a stud and the most successful offenses under Martz have been with a good RB. I didn't like Kitna in that system either. There are a lot of "if's" that go along with this but I see it as a very potential problem for the Card's defense.

here is the thing about a Martz offense:

Its very complex, and you better have good skill at the wideout positions.

Dilfer might be a better fit for the offense than Smith, who has well documented struggles with learning complicated systems.

SF's offense may be better next year, but only because it was awful this year.

Martz is like that really hot girl who is kinda crazy --

when its somebody else who is dating her, you kinda think that she is hot enough that you would gladly put up with her craziness ---

and then you end up dating her, and you quickly realize just how quickly the hotness can wear off, and the crazy is still there.

It worries me not because I think it will propel SF to the playoffs and beyond, but because it could extend thier win streak against the Cards.

I'd rather face a bruising run game than a high-flying passing game with our defense as currently constituted.

Possible that Michael Robinson, the converted Penn State QB, will get some slot back time. They will now need WRs via the draft/FA.
