Line splits?

One good thing about national games is that people who don't normally watch the Cardinals get to watch them. On another board I frequent, one guy who was watching the Cardinals for the first time noted that the Cardinals have very wide line splits. Wider than he has seen in the NFL this season.

Unfortunately, he never really explained what he meant or the pros/cons of line splits. I was able to google some sites that explained what line splits are (e.g., http://smartfootball.blogspot.com/20...en-splits.html ) but I was wondering if others on this board can expand upon this concept.

(To summarize the above link, lineman splits are how far apart the offensive lineman are. A wide split is used in pass-whacky offenses and in option offenses, though for different reasons.)
