So

Johnson and Ransom will play Sunday?

Ransom helps that rotation on the DL and since he graduated from the University of Cincinnati maybe he'll have a little desire to perform well....as should Master Blake.

The one thing I don't understand about why the practice squad rules are as they are is this.

We spend I think a 6th rounder for Gilbert. Not much but still a draft pick.

Now he's gone less than four months after he first put pads on for training camp.

I think they should allow a team to have protected players on the practice squad if A) its their first year, and B) they spent a draft pick on them

It's not like this guy was a walk-on, or is in his second year on the practice squad.

It just seems jax stole a 6th round pick from us and that kinda gets at me. Oh well.

better yet...scrap the whole practice squad and inactive nonsense.. let them all dress and stand on the sidelines..There are enough guys injured every week in the current NFL that the inactive list is mostly guys who are injured anyway..Just declare

Not sure of reasoning behind having to make 8 players inactive every week..it makes no sense to me. on the Practice squad issue... May as well let the young guys like gilbert get some special team reps on occasion..I could argue doing away with the practice squad and putting the guys on the roster...but it might be about $$$ - as the practice squad guys make way less money than the players on the regular roster.

Dick V. of the Chiefs was saying the same thing...

If it IS only about money, its a paltry sum by NFL standards.

I think practice squad members make like 60K or 75K a season. And then minimum I think is about 225K for a guy on the roster with 0 or 1 years experience.

Sure thats ~165K per player savings, but for the five man squad its less than a million total.

I don't know about you, but with five players who could help you out at some point, or become a decent player someday like a darwin walker (quite good), why not spend the money just to keep the talent around. As an owner I would not object to paying out a little less than a million more per season on players in order to keep a darwin walker from leaving every couple of years or so.
