I'm afraid of getting hurt after having high hopes for Gallery (being an Iowa native) and after Wendell Bryant (Wisconson) AND after the last high rated-can't-miss tackle left after not meeting expectations.
Shogun chill out. Its just the Gloom and Doom patrol comming back to life. They start out with with if, may be and then is Oh woo its me O who its my and the Sky is falling.
But, I've never been super-high on him either. I hope he falls to us because we have a crazy need for him, but like I said in another draft if I personally had a choice between him and AP at 5, I'd take AP.
But Thomas is #2 with a bullet on my list.

I know, but it was all going so well before they returned.

Oh, I don't know about that. IMO, the "doom and gloom" crowd would be saying we're F'd if Thomas doesn't fall to us--that the Cardinals have put us in a position where the success of the offense largely rests on two pretty big gambles: 1) Thomas falls into our laps and 2) he's as good as he's supposed to be at the next level.
I'd say they're right.

Happens every year. Draft folk tend to eat their young.
That said - the two tiny raps on Thomas are that (1) his arms are a bit short (to keep pass rushers from doing all kinds of neat spin moves) and (2) he's more a pass blocker than a run blocker and, therefore, less suitable to play LT (Matt's non blind side) than someone like Levi Jones or even Blalock.
The answer to each: (1) while his arms may be a trifle short, his hand placement is impeccable and (2) if he's that good a pass blocker, move him over to RT and find a new home for Reggie Wells.
I reiterate - for every Shawn Andrews there's a Tony Boselli or Jonathon Ogden.

He's Wendell Bryant with a wig. I'm not doom and gloom at all, I just think he is more in the mold of Gallery not Pace. I may be dead wrong and if I am I will be the first to admit it.
My point is that you can be the most athletic big man in the world but if you don't play with at least the same fire as the guy you are lining up against you will get abused.
Reasons for not wanting to draft Thomas:
1) Not sold on his toughness
2) Don't want to feel like we traded LD and the #5 pick for Thomas
3) Doesn't fit into Whis mold

Put me in that camp. If he's there I want him. The ONLY way I wouldn't be PO'd if we passed is if it was to take AP.

Thank you for breaking the circle of suck, Bidwill--Stout, December 7 2008.
I have no idea how any individual college player is going to translate into the NFL. Some very highly paid NFL scouts are wrong a lot of the time, so why would a construction guy like myself be any better?
When I am saying that I think that Cards are going to pass on Thomas, it's not because I "hate" him. It is because I think that the signals coming from the Cardinal's staff & FO seem to indicate that they are thinking in a different direction.
But I could be wrong.

I dont know. I just have more confidence that we will see Landry or Peterson in a Pro Bowl than Thomas. I dont hate the guy by any means though. I would be perfectly happy with getting him at 5.
Maybe I am just subconciously trying to avoid getting my feelings hurt when he gets picked before us.
The haters are probably the ones who believe he won't be there @ 5, and don't want to get their hopes up.
I am not one of those people, Thomas @ 5 please.
But there's a difference in accepting the fact he won't be there at 5 (I'm still on the fence if he's going to be there or not) and trying to downgrade him for the sake of making yourself feel better about the situation. You can say that he's out of our "range" all you want, but don't knock the guy for the sake of it. Thomas is a damn good prospect and should at least get his respect.
