There lies my point. Thomas isn't finesse as everyone makes him out be. It's part of that fan illusion of "Because he looks like _____, he must/not play hard" Tracy McGrady is one who comes to mind that had knocks of "loafing" because he played smooth and doesn't look like he's working hard because the game just came to him easily.
Just because he isn't some sloppy mauler like Levi Brown (who has even LESS of a killer instinct than Thomas) doesn't mean he's light in the pants.
You know more about him than I do. I hope you're right.

Good running backs are MUCH easier to find than good (and legit) left tackles. RBs are literally dime-a-dozen. Every draft churns out about five good prospects, even the weak ones. And since we have $15+ million invested in an elite running back already, I think we could afford to try and get a good left tackle, which is akin to a needle in a haystack.
In NBA terms, look at how many guards are in the league that are solid-above average. Then look at how many true centers there are, let alone the solid-above average ones. I can seriously count them on one hand. That is how I view the AP vs. Thomas debate.
With all that said, I like them both.
You make a good point there but....OT's careers generally last longer than RB's do and Peterson is special. A higher turnover rate means that when a great one comes along you have to think seriously about taking him. Taking Thomas over him might be another one of those "look who we passed up so we could fill a need" regret filled mutterings down the road. He would give us a chance to break a long sprint to the endzone that we don't have now (JJ?). Also good OT's can be had in later rounds too.
I would take Peterson over Thomas except that it is questionable how well he and Edge would work in the same backfield.
He doesn't have to be All-Pro he just needs to be a good tackle for this team.
That is the reason we dont HAVE to take a OT at 5.
But I agree if he is there we should take him.

I have no idea how any individual college player is going to translate into the NFL. Some very highly paid NFL scouts are wrong a lot of the time, so why would a construction guy like myself be any better?
When I am saying that I think that Cards are going to pass on Thomas, it's not because I "hate" him. It is because I think that the signals coming from the Cardinal's staff & FO seem to indicate that they are thinking in a different direction.
But I could be wrong.

Hear! Hear! I trust Steve Kiem's evaluation more than I do Big Deal's but I could be wrong too.
I will rally behind anything we do because I have to assume our guys know what they are doing until proven wrong.
I will stick to my guns here. Thomas might end up to be the wow of this draft in time. But, if we want to make a run, we should add picks, trade down pick up a LB and a tackle in first round or add another high second to go along with the lower first. Thomas is going to cost a ton of money, there are going to be other opertunitys latter on in the draft. Use the 1 for a top LB or DE.

I take Peterson because he is just as fast as JJ but when Roy Williams comes up to meet him we won't get the same outcome that we got with JJ. I don't know for sure if AP puts his shoulder into Williams and bowls him over but you can bet after they meet he doesn't fall to the ground and wet his pants every time he sees a tackler.

Tell me RIGHT NOW, gosh darn it! I DEMAND an answer. I'm beginning to think that Grimm and Graves put something in your kool-aid.
It depends. I don't really hate him, but I'm realistic about the fact that he's probably not going to be as good as Leonard Davis (at least not right away); I'm disappointed about the fact that we'll have to draft him if he's on the board, even if Adrian Peterson and Gaines Adams are there, too; I don't think that he's as good as last years' standout OT prospect, and I don't think that he's as good as next years' two standout OT prospects, so we're stuck having to draft for need in weak draft class at that position--as we were when we picked Bryant Johnson and Calvin Pace.
If he's there and we take him, I'll be relieved. But I won't be happy, like I was with Matt Leinart. Does that make sense to you?
At the end of the day on April 28 either Joe Thomas or AP will be an Arizona Cardinal. Either are going to be terrific players for us and be a key to our success. I wouldn't be disappointed with either player.

I think it's entirely possible they're both gone. If it were a slam-dunk that one of them was there, it's be great because they're my #1 and #2 players in the draft, but I think we may be biting our fingernails when we're on the clock because with those two gone there's not real indication of where the team will go with the pick.

teams like Houston, Buffalo, Green Bay and Denver may trade up into #3 to
snatch Peterson. The only teams in front of us that might take him are Detroit and the Browns.

So, half the teams in front of us and any of the teams that might trade up. I still say he's gone.

The first Five players to be taken in the draft imo are Russell, Johnson, Quinn, Peterson, and Thomas/Adams. I have a feeling that the Cardinals are going to trade out of the number 5 spot. If the Cardinals stay at the number five spot, I think they should draft Gaines Adams. Simply because the Cardinals have a greater need at the defensive end position and Adams is one of the BPA at the number 5 pick.
