How long should the starters play the first game?
Looking at the Cardinals Offensive problems.....How long do you guys think the Cardinals Offensive starters should play? IMO i think they should play the whole first quarter to get a good look at what they have? what does everyone else think?

Depends
Blake and Smith are veterans who can get by with a few series.....Blake maybe the entire quarter just to get the offense in synch.
Running backs (other than Shipp and Smith) are fighting for their roster lives so the more different ones we see then the better. The same may also be said for the wide receivers.....it will be hard to sit down the starters when we actually don't have any.....let's just play them equally and see what cream comes to the top.

Keep them all out there for at least the entire 1st quarter, if not even for a small part of the 2nd also. With the O-line in such disarray at this point, we need to get at least some sort of set unit to play together to try to foster some sort of rhythm and cohesion. I'd also like to see Blake start to establish some sort of rapport with someone out of the numerous WR's we have. Only so much can be done at practice.

That depends.
- I might give Emmitt one series and then yank him.
- Maybe give Shipp 8 carries. After that, enjoy the battle between Scooby Doo, Damien and Tee Pee.
- I'd yank Hodgins after a quarter. Then Bush at FB for the balance of the half (and maybe part of the 3Q)
- I'd get our starting O-line out of there after one quarter.
- Same deal with FJ. I'd give Bush a taste of TE but use him a lot at FB to give our competing backup RB's a chance to run behind someone decent.
- I'd play Blake and our top 6 receivers until I was sure the pass offense was clicking or til halftime (whichever was earliest)
- I'd give McCown a full half and Parsons anything that was left over (which could be nothing - too bad).
- I'd be tempted to rotate the top 8 defensive linemen for the entire half, and then sit them.
- First unit LB unit - One quarter only. Same deal with the second unit. Then let the rest of them duke it out in the second half.
- Starting DB's only go for one quarter. Second unit finishes up the half and part of the 3Q. Check out the kiddies after that.
- I'd alternate kickers and punters throughout the game.

Jeff - With the O-Line being the way it is right now, is there even a "third team"? If they hold out Big, Kendall, and Clement, who are all hurting (right?), won't basically the other guys (not Spikes, not L.J.) be playing 3 quarters and change anyhow?

Unless you know something new, Clement is OK. And I think they could let Kendall play for the better part of a quarter, too.
You could then make a case for guys like Dish, Garcia, Starkey, Wells and (I guess) Whiting playing on the second unit with Grace, Wragge, Sanderson and Burk phased in as needed in the second half. Since we won't need Garcia til October, I guess we could give him more than his share of reps at both guard or center. (Note - Dish has a bad hip - the less he plays, the more Garcia and Wragge presumably would play).
