hopefully all drafting Steve Slaton talk is dead

Total fraud. If you can't come up in a game against freaking Pitt when your team needs you, you shouldn't be talked about as 1st round pick. In fact, i bet he stays in school. He was the 4th best runner on that field Staurday night.

Btw, if i'm on WVA's team, i'd be pissed at QB White. If you're healthy enough to get back in the game in the 4th quarter, what are you doing in street clothes during the 3rd quarter. It was for the NC game. Completely gutless effort on his part. Ohio State thanks you.

Slaton

This argument is bogus. You take his worst game and base a conclusion on it. Just as bad if you had taken his best game and come to the opposite conclusion. He is a speed back and will probably fit in the same way as JJ Arrington. Not an every down back, but he probably will play on Sunday.

He is listed at 190 lbs -- which probably means he really is about 180--

a little light for an every down back

Isn't that what they said about Warrick Dunn? 11 years and 10,000+ career yards later, those critics are looking pretty silly. Dunn is listed at 5'9", 180. Maybe Slaton will turn out to be Dunn, maybe Arrington. But to dismiss him based on one bad game where he got all of 9 rushing attempts seems a little premature.

Both Slaton and his QB should stay in college for another year. It'll be interesting to see whether teams will convert White into a wideout.

I agee -- I doesnt mean conclusively that he wouldnt be a capable back, it just makes it less likely than if he were (say) 210 lbs.

The only back I would want the Cards to spend a 1st round pick on would be Jonathan Stewart of Oregon.

I'm concerned that Slaton's success is largely due to White. On his own he often doesn't look too special.

Is Dunn the exception or the Rule?

i've never liked him and think he's more Leland McElroy than Warrick Dunn.

The reason people mention Dunn is because it's so rare that a guy his size has prolonged success in the NFL as a feature RB.

First off nice Flame.

Second White was not in street clothes in the 3rd quarter, it appeared that way because of the hoody he was wearing but he had on his uniform. And it wasnt his decision not to go back in, the coaches wouldnt let him. He couldnt grip the ball at all (as witnessed by the fumble on the shotgun snap). Dude is an outright stud and imo the most valuable player in college football.

As far as Slaton. Well a lot of people think he lost a step. He has gained weight up to 200lb's. He claims he hasnt and has been clocked in the 40 yard dash the same before he gained weight. I think the fact that teams stuck 9 in the box and focused on stopping him maybe had something to do with his production being down. But if you watch when WVU goes into the I-Formation and he runs between the tackles, he is very effective. Where he seems to have lost a step is on the outside. He will probably be back b/c that is the way he talked before filing papers for the NFL, but it all depends on where he thinks he will get drafted.

Oh and dont thank WVU yet, all they did was set it up so OSU can get embarresed again in front of a national audience! Good luck against LSU, you are gonna need it.

Slaton is much bigger than Warrick Dunn. Slaton is 5-10 200lbs, Warrick Dunn is 5-8 180

Just like they got embarassed by the almighty Hurricanes. It cracks me up. Tressel loses 1 bowl game and all of a sudden OSU has no chance. If you remember, all the talk prior to last year's game was how Florida had no chance. Maybe a different game if Ginn stays in but i doubt it. Florida handed it to them that night. I'll take Tressel over Miles coaching any day, and i'm not a Tressel fan. I don't know what it is but Tressel doesn't get the national respect. I believe he has the exact same record as the "great" Pete Carroll the last 5 years and this will be OSU's 3rd NC game in 5 years. Once OSU puts LSU away, and it may not even be close, maybe Tressel's record will be recognized for how good it has been. People, for some reason, are in love with the SEC. When you watch the NC game, you'll be seeing about 10 first round draft picks on the field for OSU. Here they are: Vernon Gholston, Malcolm Jenkins, James Laurinitis, Anderson Russell(maybe the best of the bunch and no one knows him),Lawrence Wilson(may not play because of injury), Cameron Heyward(iron head's kid, freshman, a beast) Chris Wells, Alex Boone, Brian Robiskie. So i don't think OSU takes a back seat to anyone when it comes to talent.

EXactly.

Also on Pat White. I think he is pretty unreliable and either fragile or heartless. WVU has had 4 national, big regular season games the last 2 years and he's been "hurt" in three of them. Last year at Rutgers, this year at USF, and Pitt last weekend were all games lost by WVU because their QB couldn't go.
