I hope your right Spanky, I think that with our defense playing a one gap system this year that they will do much better. I think defenses should be attacking and not defending as much if you know what I mean.
Don't mean to pick but Wilson was a third rounder and Jackson was a fourth rounder.

He's right about Wilson. Although he was an underclassmen, so he would of been a #1 if he stayed in school. So your both right!

With the exception of Pace and Jackson this is still pretty much the ame personnel as last year.

All Im saying iss that draft position does not mean squat in this league under many circumstances. If that were true we would be awesome. How many high round bust can you count between the Cardinals and Bengals alone??

I agree, this unit is basicaly the same as last season. But, Bryant should help us out more. I hope we have an immediate contributor in Pace and KVB should be back to 100%. Also, I hope Wilson has a better feel for the game because while he has all the physical ability in the world, he seems to lack instinct. Also, Jackson should bring some leadership to our D and he does have some skills too. Come to think of it, this defense is quite a bit different. Fisher will be starting at OLB too.

I actually think the switching to an attacking style defense will help us more than anything because our Defense had speed and it suits us much better. Forget the "bend but don't break"!! I really hope the coaches were sincere about switching out D, haven't we heard the same thing for a few years now?

I disagree that we are the same unit.

add to what nidian said that wendell bryant will be 100% ready to go, KVB will 100% healthy + pace + more depth at LB.

I would offer that we are NOT the same unit at all. Rather we are a healthier, more in shape, deeper, more experienced and more talented.

Mac and Marmie had them playing for the first six games last year, but then the wheels came off. It would not surprise me if they were able to sustain it for a whole year, based on the above, baring an unusual amount of injuries.

I've watched the DL work drills against the OL and I can say there was three players that stood out.

KVB
Pace
Bryant

THis is based on the same drills against the same people, they were clearly better.

THis is a completly different group than last year in many spots, Lb, D-line, safety. It will also be the growth year for many. Second year in NFL. Thats big. The first year for most is a learning curve in language as well as speed of the game. The second year the game slows a bit and you can see more and move instinctavly.

We will be different, will we be better ? It looks that way but until the gun goes off we won't knwo for sure.

Agree. Where these guys are drafted is irrelevant in saying the Cards have some great defense (or great potential). All it means is if the Cards have a crappy defense, then they can point to the Cards draft choices in rounds 1 and 2 and show where the Cards erred. The draft position of players should mean no more to us at this point than Thomas Jones...who was a first rounder.

I certainly HOPE these guys play to first/second round level but I don't count on it. There is almost equal likelihood of a 4th rounder playing at a first level as a first meeting expectations.
