I'm starting to wonder about "conditioning"...

I've always thought it interesting that hockey players don't seem to have nearly as many problems as football players when it comes to groin and hamstring injuries. I wonder if a type of cross-training might help. ...And I feel for the players that are dealing with it because you want to go all-out BUT doing so could tear it. Tough spot! GO CARDS!!

Doesn't strenous activity in cold weather lead to tight hamstrings?

http://www.mendmeshop.com/hamstring/...ing-causes.php

Doing too much, too soon, too fast, or exercising and moving about in cold weather, puts you at even more risk for a pulled hamstring.

Maybe staying on the east coast and practicing in the wind and rain wasn't such a good idea.....

I wonder if a lot of it doesn't have to do with stretching. There are studies that conclude that athletes shouldn't stretch until after practice/game. A proper & thorough warm up before the game is what is needed. I've been using this technique for years w/ my players & haven't had a hammy injury since. In fact, all injuries have gone down appreciably. The theory, when looken into in depth, makes a lot of sense. In my experience, the proofs in the pudding.

On another front, I think cross training is invaulable as well. I have found that those that play multiple sports are FAR less susceptible to injury than those that play just one year round. I can't help but to wonder if that's one of the reasons why we see a rash of torn bicep, tricep, pec., etc., so frequently these days. Those were rarely seen when I was growing up. Just food for thought.

For those of you thinking, what is this crazy Cards232 talking about, of course you need to stretch before working out. The following link may prove very informative for you. If one steps back & looks at this pragmatically, it make a lot of sense. As I stated, for me, the proof was in the pudding.

That is interesting...

Can't recall seeing football players stretching following a game. I have noticed the Cardinals in particular making a point of stretching prior to games and at the beginning of practice sessions.
