I just remembered something I was going to point to as a micro chasm of
Haley's approach to the game. I don't know if he was actually calling the plays at that point but they seemed to be "called" as opposed to "audibled".
In the second half when the offense finally started to move the ball(without turning it over) the Cardinals were once again down near the goal line with first and goal from the 1. The previous two drives, the same situation and position on the field presented itself and a handoff to Edge was all it took and it looked easy. The Jets' D was all day defending the pass and while a running game wasn't effective, the short little lunge into the end zone was essentially uncontested. Twice in a row.
This time though, Haley decides to go with two pass plays on first and second down. Risky in general and very risky considering the way that particular game had gone. The result was two incompletions and on 3rd and goal from the 1, Hightower plunged in very easily. In that series, why not try what had been working? Overall, it makes me question just how well Haley knows what he's doing.
It seems to me that the league is very quickly catching up to his tendencies and it's making him look VERY predictable and putting the offense in low percentage situations. Much like the 3rd and long plays that were so disastrous, his running plays always seem to come at such a predictable time that I now wonder how much the ineffectiveness of the running game is on Edge's age and the o-line and how much is on defenses "knowing" that a run is coming.
Color me worried.
