I checked out the Cards 2004 preview tape last night and saw a little blurb where Green is talking with McCown and explaining the offensive system and specifically the recievers. He mentioned something about Fitz deciding to do this and Anquan deciding to do this and the receivers deciding to run a certain route based on what the coverage was.
Probably nothing major, but is it possible that Green's system is to our young recievers what learning a complex
west coast offense would be to a young quarterback? From hearing what he was saying it sure sounds like the recievers in his offense are given alot of decision making responsibilities and are required to adjust their routes based on coverages etc....
Looking back at tape from last year and taking from what I heard about Coach Sullivan, the Cards recievers in the past were taught to be very disciplined in their routes with very specific patterns to run. Not much room for free lancing. Anquan Boldin seemed to thrive in that system. Is it just that we have bad quarterback play or do we have young recievers who need more structure, a more watered down system. Take the play where Boldin ran a deep route but King thought he was going to go short because there was a blitz coming. Boldin was the guy who made the wrong decision on that play.
