First: Some positive pre-game observations from FedEx Field
So I was at the game yesterday, and it just so happens that my obstructed seats (could see the entire field and was in the shade--nice!) were right by the end zone where the Cards lined up. The team's warmups impressed me in a few ways.
You could see a new, different attitude. There was excitment, confidence, and a spark in the warmups that I haven't really seen before. Everything was crisp and precise, and while that obviously isn't an indicator on how the game will go, it's a refreshing change. The one positive that I really liked was how Whis walked around the warmup. He made a point of visiting every individual player for at least a few seconds, offering encouragement and a few words to get them ready for the game. I really liked seeing that.
Of course, that said, it was clear to me that our swagger wasn't earned; we were overconfident and thus not mentally prepared for the game. Hopefully we learn a lesson from this and play with confidence, but temper the swagger with cold focus.
