Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the Falcons have signed Joey Harrington to serve as the primary backup quarterback to starter Michael Vick. The signing also is being reported by Adam Schefter of NFL Network.
Financial terms are not yet available.
Harrington, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2002 draft, was traded to the Dolphins last year by the Lions. He was cut earlier in the offseason by the Fins.
Falcons agreed to terms with Joey Harrington on a two-year contract.
Harrington showed he's a capable backup in Miami, but his weaknesses show up over time. Moving to Atlanta seems unlikely to rehab his value depending on how Bobby Petrino's offseason translates to the pros. Michael Vick has only started 16 games once in his career, but Harrington wouldn't be an exciting fantasy option even if he gets a few starts. Profootballtalk.com reports the deal is worth $6 million.
