Fake field goal tells me one thing.

We need one of our backup QB's to be the holder. If you don't want to risk Leinart, and I don't, put in St. Pierre. That play would have worked if Johson had any kind of arm strentgh. Tumanwas wide open and had to wait on the ball which gave the defender time to come from the other side of the field and make the tackle.

If you want to have an option for a fake field goal, then you need to have someone that can make the play.

I don't think the 3rd QB can be in the game unless the second has been or the first or second has to be out or something. I could be totally wrong. I think Morey should do it. He is my ST hero.

You cant change holders midway through the season, and putting a QB in place for one FG kind of gives it away to the defense.

Heck, they should have just direct-snapped the ball to Rackers and let him make the throw. I bet he would have gunned a better throw in there. If he put the same effort into passing that he does tackling, then he might have made the play work.

Why can't Urban hold. I think he played a little quarterback in his past.

I'm not talking about one play. I'm talking about every FG attempt. I agree that, unless an injury occurs to your punter you don't make that change in the middle of the season. The possibility of your punter getting hurt in a game, ala Dallas, drives home the fact that it should be the third string QB.

I think the rule is that if you put him in as QB, then you can't play your 1st or 2nd string QB's for the rest of the game.

Did he play Doug Flutie dinner theater reenactment of BC's victory over Miami?

Cool.

I think the reason teams use the punter to hold is that it doesn't take another player away from regular practice.

the issue is this:

you generally want the same holder working with the kicker as much as possible

if its a position player -- Urban, Morey, etc -- and they get hurt during the game, you are changing holders in the middle of a game.

Some teams use back up QBs to be the holder -- and a couple years ago when the Cowboys promoted Romo to starter, they kept him as holder for the remainder of the season just to maintain the kickers continuity.

Throwing to a slow TE was the problem. If it had been Boldin, Breaston or Fitz, it would have been a TD.

Even Patrick or Pope would have made it. Also, Johnson need to put a little more zip on that pass.

he just needed to lead the throw a bit. It was behind and floated.
